How We Can Keep Our Elderly Safe
Together we can stop elder abuse and crimes against our weakest citizens.
4 Tips for Keeping Elderly Safe from Home Invasion Crimes
What We Can Do Now

1. Install Security Cameras
Small camera systems are now cheap and can be easily installed. Many parents use these "nanny cams" to protect their children from bad babysitters. Using this technology for elderly people makes good sense too.
Install one camera that can be easily seen by anyone coming into the home. This will most likely deter criminal activity because the criminals will know they are being watched.
2. Sign-In All Visitors to the Home
Keep a list of anyone who comes into the house.
This is a common practice in schools and nursing homes. Why not in a private home?
Recent home invasion victim Natalie Vinge was attacked by a criminal who had sold her a vacuum cleaner earlier. He had returned under the pretense of using the phone a few days later, only to kidnap and almost kill her.
Hinting to everyone who enters the home that they are being watched and noted shows them that not only are you serious about protecting yourself but that there will be names and information for any future police investigations.
3. Know Your Neighbors
Keeping in contact with your neighbors helps a great deal.
Asking them to keep a look out for your house while you return the favor gives you a sense of security.
If there is unusual activity, or no activity, your neighbors will check on you. Neighborhood watches can be invaluable.
4.Work for Justice
The Justice system will work but it's vital citizens get involve.
Demand criminals who attack and harm the elderly be punished swiftly and effectively. Then work to see that that happens through the legal system.
If pressure is kept up by the media and concerned citizens dangerous criminals can be locked up.
