Who is Eleanor Of Aquitaine

Eleanor of Aquitaine was born in 1122. Her grandfather, William IX, was the powerful and wealthy duke of Aquitaine. She had inherited the duchy of Aquitaine from her father, William X of Aquitaine in April of 1137. Eleanor's mother was Aenor of Chatellerault.

When Eleanor was just a young girl at the age of 5, her father died and her new father became Duke William X. Soon thereafter, Eleanor's brother and mother died which left Eleanor the heir to the vast realm of Aquitaine.

Eleanor's father William X, was a fan of the arts and passed his love on to his daughter. Eleanor had developed a lifelong love of music and literature. She lived a privileged life and received the finest education. She had also traveled across Aquitaine with her father to prepare her for her future roll of duchess.

At the age of 15, her father William asked his men to commend Eleanor to the care of Louis the Fat, king of France from his deathbed. Louis was thrilled at the opportunity and planned to marry off this young, beautiful girl to his own son and heir. On August 1, 1137, Eleanor of Aquitaine was married to the future King Louis VII.
