The Electric Company
Ranked #15,506 in Entertainment, #189,613 overall
Children's Television Workshop
The Electric Company was a creation of Children's Television Workshop (Later the CTW was changed to Sesame Workshop) and was aired on PBS from 1971 to 1977 for a total of 780 episodes. From 1977 to 1985 the program was still shown, but only in reruns.
The Electric Company helped countless children to learn about spelling and counting. I grew up watching The Electric Company which, along with Sesame Street and Captain Kangaroo, was one of my absolute favorite educational programs as a child and in fact, I still love it today!
Today Morgan Freeman is a very well known actor, but did you know he got his start on The Electric Company? Whenever I watch a movie with Morgan in it I am always reminded of the funny characters he played on The Electric Company.
Other, now famous, actors were part of the cast including Bill Cosby, Rita Moreno and Lily Tomlin. Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks even provided his voice in the show!

Skits From The Electric Company
This Is Just A Small Sampling Of The Wonderful Skits From The Show

The Director
This character was played by Rita Moreno who could never seem to get the actors to read the cue cards correctly. Marcello, played by Morgan Freeman, was her assistant who tried to hold the cue cards while Moreno hit it with her riding crop out of frustration when trying to get the actors to read the words.
Dr. Doolots
This was a parody of Dr. Doolittle in which the Doctor, played by Luis Avalos used words to treat his patients.

Fargo North, Decoder
Skip Hinnant played this detective who's job was to decode mixed up words and phrases using his own crazy machines, for example one was constructed from an antique ringer washer.
Five Seconds
In the middle of the show the viewers were told that they had five seconds to read a word that was shown on the screen.
Giggles, Goggles

A character called Julia Grown-Up, played by Judy Graubart, which was a paradoy of Julia Child's cooking show.

- I loved this show as a kid and was a big fan of the Spider-Man segments. I remember the one when Spider-Man was trying to get the Yeti out of New York and he set up ice cream cones on the ground that the Yeti sat on to cool off.

- Hello MobyD! "And, what about Naomi?" is from a sketch called The Love of Chair, but I am sure you already knew that. For the rest of the readers - In this skit Skip Hinnant played a young boy who sat in a chair while the announcer read a story. At the end the question "And, what about Naomi?" was always asked.
