Pros and Cons Of An Electric Pocket Bike

While gas pocket bikes are more popular, there are some advantages to buying an electric pocket bike instead. There are also some disadvantages, so be sure you weigh all your options before making your purchasing decision.

An advantage to buying an electric pocketbike is the ease of use. You don't have to pre-mix the gasoline/oil mixture, change spark plugs or deal with chain and starter recoil parts to change. You just turn the key on and twist the throttle, and off you go!

Another advantage is speed control. Gasoline powered pocket rockets can achieve dangerous speeds, especially when a child is riding it. Electric pocket rockets usually have a much slower top speed, making it ideal for beginners. Not to say, however, electric's can't go fast - only that you can specifically buy slower top speed electric pocketbikes whereas with gas version you'd have to change sprocket and clutch gear sizes and find other ways to slow it down.

With that being said, lower top speeds is the biggest disadvantage inherent to the electric motor driven versions. Even the larger 700 watt engines have difficulty reaching 20 miles per hour. Also, of course, is the need to recharge the battery often to maintain peak performance - but that's trivial compared to the speed issue.
