There are electrostatic, electrostatic combined with media and even pleated filters with electrostatic characteristics.

Electrostatic - This type is simply that. No additional media to improve filtration. These types rely entirely on the principals of electrostatic filtration.

Electrostatic with Media - This type of electrostatic filter relies on additional media added to improve on the performance of the electrostatic filter.

Electrostatic Pleated - These are basically pleated panel furnace filters made with a material that is electro statically charged. At first inspection these filters don't look like they would be very efficient but some are very efficient.
