Elegant Orchids My Husband Grows
Ranked #23,690 in Home & Garden, #355,162 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund
Some of His Orchids are Simply Elegant!
A very private man - my husband - so,... you'll never get a tour of his MAGNIFICENT ORCHIDS.
However...I have FOUND A WAY to show them to you...just keep it on the "QT", ok? The only way he'll know, is if ONE of you "spills the beans"!
Here's the first photo of his elegant orchids, and there are lots more to come. I have some links up, for you to view - of our other Orchid Lenses, on Squidoo. They are down towards the bottom of the page, and I just thought you might enjoy them. Some of those orchids are very odd, to say the least. Please enjoy them, as the Grand Orchid Tour is just not going to happen!
These two beauties, I call the "Dashing Debutante Duo"!
HOPE YOU LOVE ORCHIDS, 'CAUSE...
...here they come!
Please take a few minutes to just relax, put up your feet, get a cup of coffee or tea or hot cocoa or - what am I thinking? - YOU know what you like to drink- and enjoy the photos of my husband's ELEGANT ORCHIDS.
While you are exploring our ELEGANT ORCHID GALLERY below, keep it down to a "dull roar", if you would - I don't want my husband to know I brought you in here.
He'd have a fit!
One terrific book on Orchids from Amazon
The Classic Cattleyas
Amazon Price: $9.98 (as of 05/31/2012)![]()
The book highlights Cattleya - pronounced "cat - lay - ya" orchids, one of the most beautiful orchid types that exist. You will refer to it repeatedly, and love the photos! Cattleyas are "sort-of" Orchid Queens. If you are of of those Orchid Lovers who like the elegant ones - this book will not disappoint you!

Large, luscious, and definitely elegant, but the "lip" colors are a surprise!
Queenly Quadruple Orchids
Now showing...sneak preview
These four just bloomed - March 2010.
What a surprise, when they opened up!
It is hard to tell, from the photo, but these fuschia and icy pink orchids are HUGE! No, your eyes are not deceiving you - the same orchid plant produced two pairs of orchids, of different hues. Aging orchid blooms DO change their color - often, dramatically - but these were fresh blooms!
Their fragrance is reminiscent of a French designer perfume - don't ask me which one - I don't keep up with those things, but the entire kitchen smelled like a perfume factory.
My husband usually gets the benefit of the orchids' aroma, because this particular one's fragrance intensifies, as it is exposed to the light! I get up early, and sometimes leave before the sun has shone its face. I often come home after dark, so - 6 out of 7 days, I miss it - drat!
Not ALL orchids are like that though - the "Ladies of the Night" Orchids that he grows - are ONLY aromatic at night, and MAN! are they fragrant!

...remember, he has thousands.
Exceptionally elegant, no?

Some Great Books on Cattleyas
Orchids, Moringa, the DUCK, and pizza tax?
There are a lot more of my husband's beautiful, strange, breath-taking, often troublesome orchids, in our lenses below.
We also have featured...drumroll maestro, please...our unintentional duck, Archimedes. Well, let me clarify that - SHE intended to be a duck - I "think". But WE, that is my orchid-growing husband and I, did not intend to OWN a duck - and CERTAINLY not a Muscovy Duck. My husband used to be horribly prejudiced against their kind. You need to see Archimedes.
For your relaxation and enjoyment, in addition to our lens on orchids, we have included some on the trees we grow, and eat - AND a piece of RIDICULOUSITY - (that is pronounced "ree - dik - you - law - city" - emphasis ON the the fourth syllable, please) for you to vote on, about a PIZZA TAX.
How'd you like my husband's orchids?
If you DID, please check out our other lenses below...
Because he works so hard with his orchids, I want you all to see them. Remember, as I said in the other ORCHID LENSES, you are not likely to see them, face-to-face! My husband would pass out, if he knew I was giving you the grand tour like this.
I'm going to have to tell him, though, because I think everything should be open and honest, in a marriage --- BUT --- until I do, please tell me if you like the results of his passionate love for ORCHIDS!

- So did you tell yet? Do you think he would mind me mentioning your lenses on my gardening blog Weeds and Seed Swap? Is he growing them for profit or fun? Thanks for visiting my Corrie Ten Boom lens and for your comment:-)

- These photos are beautiful. Maybe you could find out (on the sly of course) what their names are because I'm sure there are people who would love to know that too.
