I have always loved elephants because they are such fantastic animals, with emotions, they love people, and can be very teachable and helpful. Well, elephants are creative artists too and love to paint. They are in the Top 10 Smartest Animals. This is absolutely fascinating! I hope in my heart that these pachyderm artists are humanely trained.

Asian and African Elephants
There Are Two Different Kinds of Elephants or Genera
(Elephant Picture Credits; Elephants on Wikipedia.
The Asian Elephants have much, much smaller ears than their cousins, the African Elephants. Elephants do not have very good eyesight for some reason. Their sight is quite poor and they can not see far distances like us humans do. Elephants mostly rely on their extremely good hearing and their sense of smell. Their trunks come in handy for many things.
The Asian and African Elephants can both be taught to paint art pictures. To begin with, their trainers will guide the elephants trunks, and give them treats for performing. Based on the reward system, the elephants are eager to learn. If they were not trained to learn how to draw a picture with a paint brush, it would look like abstract art that is just color here and there.

Elephants are very intelligent with great memories and can be taught to perform many tasks. Most often we think of elephants in a circus doing tricks. Elephants in a zoo do love the people who come to visit and look at them. They like it when people talk to them.
I always get a kick out of this picture, because it looks like the elephant is so happy and smiling. ~ Too cute for me!
Elephants can spend up to 16 hours a day eating, that doesn't give them much time for painting pictures. . They like to eat leaves, bark, and fruits, and some grasses and herbs.

- I adored seeing the sanctuary elephant painting, but the circus elephant painting....it just bothered me some. I always felt bad for circus animals. The elephant is very intelligent. I did enjoy this lens.

- The Elephant is so majestic and when I read about the poaching that going on in Africa and India and other parts of Souh Asia it effects me emotionally to think that this largest of land mammals is being slaughtered for their tusks to make traditional Chinese medicine.
Hopefully, we as human will see that when we destroy this magnificent animal...we are in essence detroying ourselves. Very educational and insightful lens.

- I didn’t even get to the end of your introduction when you wrote exactly my thought “I hope in my heart that these pachyderm artists are humanely trained.”
I know elephants are amazing creatures and very intelligent. It’s not that hard to believe that some are even able to paint (and realize that they are producing those colorful marks on the canvas).
But I also know what some humans are capable of when it comes to making money.
Let’s hope it’s not the case here.
