How To Eliminate The "Bizarre Email Check" And Work Productively?

One of the biggest time wasters as business owners and entrepreneurs is the email.

Often, we get absorbed by it, and it is critical to understand what this does to your time management skills and personal productivity.

Most people wake up in the morning, and can't wait to check their email, because they are excited and curious to see what they should be doing for today.

That's right; most people check their emails in the morning, because they do not have a clear determined plan for today.

So they check emails to see what they can do and get some ideas in order to do something today.

In this way, the email is used as a planner, especially if we are subscribed to multiple email newsletters that give us a road map for today.

Well, the problem with that approach is often non-intuitive. Those things are often below our radar, because the email was not written by you, but it was written TO YOU.

So when we check our email to see what we should be doing today, you are living by somebody Else's principles and agenda, because they wrote things to you.

Do we really have a control over our life when we check emails in the morning or as we wake up?

Well, the email takes us on a journey of getting a taste for a magic pill and the next shiny idea that pops up.

There will be always new techniques, new ideas and new ways of doing things. There's so much information around us today, we can barely keep up with our OWN projects, tasks and activities, because we get distracted by those things.

If we keep checking emails in the morning, just for the sake of "seeing what to do for today," or expecting an email from somebody that can give us a feedback on something or seeking for approval and validation, it is not going to get us anywhere.

Email is often positioned as an urgent tool.

As soon as you get an email, we were pre-conditioned to respond to it right away, because it is subconsciously believed that the person on the other side is waiting for a response from us.

We do not like to keep people waiting?

This is when the email controls your life, instead of you taking control of it.

If you get a lot of emails daily, I mean really more than 30 emails that half is spam and half is it not, then you should really considering checking the email as less as possible.

Just as you trained yourself to check your email every time in the morning, you can train yourself to check the email AFTER YOU FINISH what you have planned for today.

Email can always wait, you want to take control over the email, not having the email to control you.

So how to overcome this temptation of checking emails all the time?

Here's a little challenge for you.

Stop checking emails for 3 days. Okey, yea, 3 days.

See what's going to happen if you do not respond to anyone and see what everyone is communicating with you.

There are few critical exceptions to this, like for instance, when someone is looking for a refund and waiting for you to validate your guarantees, you may want to respond to such inquires, if you do not have a person who does that for you.

But it most cases, 90% of the emails we get are a complete waste of time.

So try it out, 3 days NO reading emails and no writing emails.

See how's that going to affect your performance.

Notice the urge every time when you try to log-in to your email account. Notice that urge and ask yourself, "Why do you want to check the email."

WRITE down all the reasons on a piece of paper.

Then as you finish, write even MORE reasons why you SHOULD not check your email.

See, this is an internal battle with yourself, in order to eliminate automatic patterns based on an impulse.

When you do this, study those patterns within yourself and try to examine then and notice them when you get that urge.

Being aware of them is going to help you eliminate unproductive behaviors, because you will know how to deal with them, because you know how they emerged in the first place.

During this 3 day no email test period, you want to do the same with SOCIAL MEDIA, if you have a personal account in Facebook, Twitter or any other social media sites. Do not log-in there as well for 3 days.

This is a trial period for you to see that you haven't lost as much, because most people are concerned with not taking advantage of an opportunity or something that may deliver the results they want as a result of a particular email.
