- Elizabeth Clare Prophet neatly fits in the line of influential and prolific metaphysical teachers like Swedenborg, Boehme, Blavatsky, Besant and Leadbeater. Her teachings are very Theosophical and she acknowledges the Gnostic and esoteric wisdom tradition in the west. According to some 'petit mals,' from which she suffered, come with mediumship and only the most reductionist, materialist thinkers would see in that a reason to explain away her work. Others belief that she was the messenger for the Masters to enlighten the 'barbaric west' and is therefore to be seen as the HPB of the 20th century. Of course she was controversial for implementing civil defense measures in the late 1980s, but that has to be seen from the perspective of her geopolitical assessment of the Soviet Union and the chance of nuclear war. Her daughter recently published a book about that period, of which I wrote a review, which can be found on www.alpheus.org (go to the "New" page and look under "April 2009")
