Grandpa's Secret Elk Hunting Tips

Elk hunting can see you in the mountains of America and the forests of Europe, searching for large deer that can weigh upwards of 650 pounds. These large, tough animals should not be hunted by amateurs, but even hunters with years of experience should keep a few elk hunting tips in mind.
The first thing to remember about elk hunting is that you need to learn a bit about your quarry. Elk have an extremely well-developed sense of smell, so make sure that scent eliminators are part of your elk hunting equipment. Think about the terrain that you will be facing and make sure that you pack accordingly. Remember that elk have a tendency to go higher on the mountain; pack warmly for yourself and make sure that you are prepared for any weather, whether it is a Pacific Northwest snowstorm or constant deluges while you're hunting in North America.
When you are planning your elk hunting trip there are a few things that you should keep in mind. Remember that hunting elk can be an extremely involved affair, and that going alone is not recommended, even for hunters who are well versed in this sport. You may choose to go with other hunters, or you may choose to go with outfitters or guides. Whichever way you choose, remember that to get elk, unless you are going on a canned hunt, you will be venturing fairly deep into the wilderness. If you don't listen to any of the other elk hunting tips, listen to that one!
When you are thinking of elk hunting equipment, one of the most important things that you need to consider are elk calls, devices that can bring elks closer to you for one reason or another. When you go to hunt the bucks, you will have your choice of two types of call. Your call may resemble that of another bull challenging your bull's territory, or your call might be more closely related to that of a cow. When you are using elk calls, remember that the key is calling the right number of times. Different guide books will tell you different things about how much is too much and how much is too little, but when it comes to elk hunting tips, remember that elk are animals that are fairly sensitive to things that are wrong. Calling too much or too little can result in the elk leaving the area and making your elk hunting equipment all but worthless.
Elk hunting is something that all hunters should try at one point or another, so make sure you don't miss the opportunity to do so. Remember your elk hunting tips and you should be just fine!
