Elliptical Resistance

Elliptical exercise equipment is becoming more popular at my gym. While the treadmills are still kept fairly busy, the elliptical machines are busy almost full time. One reason is due to elliptical resistance. The resistance on an elliptical machine can be varied to increase the power of the workout. Besides building muscle, ellipticals also give a great cardio workout.

If you are looking to buy your own elliptical machine, you should find a model that offers magnetic resistance on the flywheel. While some models offer belt resistance, the magnetic resistance is quieter and can often be adjusted on the fly from the digital console. This allows you to change the elliptical resistance as you are exercising.

Another option for elliptical resistance is incline. There are very few models of ellipticals that offer this kind of resistance and it is usually on the pricer models.

The elliptical machine not only works your legs, but your arms as well. Your feet glide back and forth while your arms work the handles for an upper body workout.

Elliptical exercise machines offer a total body workout that is good for beginners as well as experienced exercisers.
