Elmo Cakes | Learn To Make Elmo Birthday Cakes Using An Elmo Cake Pan

Anodized aluminum Elmo cake pan fits one standard cake mix and measures 13-1/2 by 10-1/2 by 2 inches.

• Wilton icing colors in No-Taste Red, Black, and Orange
• Wilton Cake Board
• Cornstarch
• One box of cake mix
• 3 cups buttercream icing

For best results, keep the prepared icing refrigerated when you're not using it. This buttercream recipe can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. When you're ready to use it after keeping it refrigerated, whip again for a few minutes. Makes 3 cups. Thin the icing with light corn syrup for icing cake or use as prepared for decorating.

• 1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening
• 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
• 4 cups (1 lb.) sifted confectioners' sugar
• 2 tablespoons milk
• 1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract

Cream butter and shortening with electric mixer. Add vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry. Add milk and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.

Even inexperienced cake decorators can make a super-cute Elmo cake with this easy idea. Bake a round cake and a batch of cupcakes. Frost the round cake red and arrange two white-frosted cupcakes for the eyes. Cut off the top half of one cupcake and frost it orange for the nose, and draw a mouth and black dots on the eyes with ready-to-use black icing.
