Elvis Presley Continues to Break and Make Records!
This time with a highly unusual Christmas recording called Elvis Presley Christmas Duets
On October 14th, 2008, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc., released a new Elvis Presley Christmas album called Elvis Presley Christmas Duets. It was the very first duet album for Elvis and also the first CD of its type ever produced. That is, the first duets album ever created and released posthumously!Duets include a virtual who's who from today's entertainment world including country recording artists Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Gretchen Wilson, Sarah Evans, Wynonna and LeAnn Rimes, females from Little Big Town (Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman) all performing holiday songs with Elvis.
The Jordanaires, who sang back-up on the early recordings, re-did their parts. "It's done in very good taste," the group's Gordon Stoker said. "We're doing the same background we did originally on the recordings in 1957."
Elvis fans will love these classics - the artists who participated were very excited. "There has been tremendous excitement from the many artists contributing their voices to these Elvis Christmas classics," says Joe Galante, Chairman of Sony BMG.
To create these musical duets, Sony had to use some pretty advanced technology. The songs that are on the recording were originally one track mono recordings done by Elvis in 1957 and 1971 and include I'll Be Home For Christmas, Santa Claus Is Back In Town, Silver Bells and of course, Blue Christmas. The songs are now recorded on multi-track with Elvis on one track and his voice dropped to allow room for the new voice. The recording was made in the famous RCA Studio B in Nashville where Elvis recorded the 1971 Christmas session.
This results in a brand-new recording for Elvis fans but also manages to record and preserve more of his great music for all time.
Elvis is amongst the biggest-selling artists of holiday music every year, having sold over 25 million copies in the U.S., even though he only recorded about 20 Christmas songs. His Christmas albums show up on the holiday charts every year and his 1957 album, called Elvis' Christmas Album, is the top-selling holiday album ever with 9 million copies sold.

Shouldn't Elvis have a say about who he sings with?
Are you wary when they fiddle with original recordings? Fans tend to be of two minds. Some think they should leave the original recordings alone while others think that a song and an artist can be enhanced by revision and renewed popularity.
In Elvis' case, remember when they redid the little known song 'A Little Less Conversation?' Now it is well recognized everywhere you go.
What do you think? Are they messing with a good thing?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byYes, they are messing with a good thing and they should leave the original recordings alone.

No, I think there is something to be gained by renewing a recording.

I think experimenting is a great idea - but you have to be prepared for it to crash and not work.

Reviews of Elvis Presley Christmas Duets
- Music Review: Elvis Presley - Christmas Duets
- Christmas Duets presents some classic Elvis in a new and creative way. It is a good and fun holiday listen. Merry Christmas to all fans of the true king of rock 'n' roll!
- Billboard.com
- Elvis Presley never recorded duets, but that didn't stop RCA from compiling an album of duets for the 2008 Christmas season -- all with the help of the latest studio technology and ten willing duet partners.
- Times & Transcript
- It's a cute marketing scheme, and surely there's no doubting the talent of all the singers involved, but do the "duets" stand up? If you ask Moncton's own Elvis impersonator, the record does indeed stand up.

AMAZON CUSTOMER REVIEW:
"Time-Life actually outdid RCA in some ways with this series, offering both great sound and packaging. In this case, 21 of his best Christmas tracks from the 50's through the 70's, including one previously unreleased track. The 20-page booklet contains an excellent essay by Charles K. Wolfe, lots of seldom-viewed photos (Elvis reading his draft notice in front of the Christmas tree, wearing black leather pants; Elvis and the Colonel, dressed as Santa, in the early-60's), several Christmas 45 & EP picture sleeves, and individual song information. The CD itself is a red and black picture disc, and there is a CD tray card with Holiday greetings from Elvis and the Colonel. The cover photo is a great one of Elvis circa 1957, wearing gloves and holding a Christmas present labeled 'EP.'" ~~ D.C. Hanoy
Who would have guessed it? Thirty-one years after he is gone, Elvis is still releasing new music!
