Importance of Getting High Email Deliverability Rates

Email marketing is a vital and one of the simplest forms of direct marketing which uses internet technology, most specifically the use of email or electronic mail. This strategy was embraced by many businesses and companies in order for them to achieved a higher revenue and increase on sales of what they're offering i.e., a product or a service. But the problem in this marketing strategy is having a low email deliverability rates, in short only small amount of emails was successfully delivered to their potential customer's inbox folders. Because most of the email sent are caught by spam filters and blacklist programs, that's one of the reason why most businesses of today are focusing on how they can get a high email deliverability rates on emails that they would be sending to individuals to ensure they have been able to get in touch with these people. Having a high email delivery rate you can always inform your clients on what's new in your business and what they can expect more from your business, in short you're building a strong bond with your clients and on the later part, these people will tell others how great your service offered or products, and eventually you will have more sales and become more successful in your chosen business.

Boosting Your Email Deliverability Rates to the next level

Compilation useful tips that I've read from different blogs that you can follow as a guide to improve your email deliverability rates.

1. Check the percentage of your "Bounce Backs"

Bounce backs means that the emails are not successfully delivered because of bad or incorrect addresses. I'm sure you're familiar with this error message that comes out in your email inbox with a subject line like listed below-or ones that are similar:

o 550 5.1.1 User unknown
o 550 No such user - psmtp
o 550 User account is unavailable
o 550 Recipient Rejected: No account by that name here

Here are the possible solutions for this problem

o Deleting emails from your database immediately.
o Contact the person who has error on his/her email address for correction.
o Take down notes on the NOT WORKING email addresses before deleting it from the database.

2. Test your email messages for spam before sending

o Run your email message by using a Email Blacklist checker before sending
o Check your KEYWORDS and CONTENT as a WHOLE because many ISPs and mail servers' uses different kinds of powerful spam filtering programs that scan your message for "spam-trigger keywords, advertising keywords, explicit content."
o Keywords to avoid as follows: Sale, special, limited time, discount, win, etc

3. Simplicity is the BEST

Make your template simple, do not use excessive images, banners that will increase your email message size.

4. Make sure your ISP is not on a blacklist

Spammers may have abused the servers of the autoresponder that you use. As a result, the major ISPs may have blacklisted or blocked emails from these servers. To discover if you are blacklisted, find the IP address of the email server and do a spam database lookup at www. DNSstuff.com or www.OpenRBL.org.

5. Using Personal URLs

Adding a PURL is a key way to engage the customer and encourage them to take the next step.. It is a one click response mechanism that can be incorporated into an email campaign in order to measure ROI and boost response. Transferring your sales content to a landing page can dramatically increase your deliverability rate and provide more information that email functionality cannot support such as video. Landing pages can be pre-populated with variable text, images, and video to increase response. Pair this with a customized survey and create a highly targeted database.

6. Contact Information Updates for Your Clients
Always make it a point that your subscribers have the option to change their address or modify their subscription. By implementing this simple rule you'll reduce the number of bounce backs you receive each mailing.

7. Personalization & Segmentation

Adding personalization and segmentation to your email will help capture the prospect's attention. Target demographically relevant content in order to capture attention. Creating a Personalize URL will both increase response rates and also track warm leads. On your landing page you can engage with a stronger call to action and provide more sales information to improve conversion.

8. HTML and Plain Text Version is the BEST

Usage of HTML messages to allow for text formatting, multiple columns, images, and brand recognition is growing in popularity and is widely supported by most email client software. Most spam is also HTML formatted and thus differentiating between requested email and spam HTML messages can be difficult.

9. Keep it short and direct to the point

a. Your subscribers' needs
b. Your goals

10. Build Reputation to avoid SPAM Caught

Reputation services are often used by large ISP's as a way to vet email senders regarding their email practices and policies. Businesses listed with these services are then given less stringent filtering or no filtering at all. Several reputation services are:

o http://www.isipp.com/iadb.php
o http://www.bondedsender.com/
o http://www.habeas.com/

11. Tell Your Subscribers to White List You

For some this tactic is old, but for the newbies out there this is already proven to be effective. By just simply adding your email address to their address book will lessen the chances of you being blacklisted.

12. Double Opt-In for your potential clients

Confirming that the people who ask for your information have actually requested to be on your list is the number one step in the battle for deliverability. You should be using a process called confirmed opt-in or verified opt-in to send a unique link to the attempted subscriber when they request information. Before adding the person to your list they must click that unique link verifying that they are indeed the same person that owns the email address and requested to subscribe.

13. Don't Send Emails during Sat and Sun, even Mondays.

This observation was based from their experience. Mondays are too busy. Saturdays and Sundays is a time to relax together with your family so only few open emails during that days of the week.

14. Useful: Reference previous and up-coming content
Just a bonus tip: People don't read every email you send. Reference previous content and hint and upcoming content.

15. Make your email welcome message look like your sign-up form
Help new subscribers to recognize you in their inboxes by branding your online sign-up page and your welcome email with the same colors, images and typography.
