Need dental work but can't afford it? Dr Randall A. Diez is helping residents of Tampa and the surrounding communities during this difficult economic period by giving free emergency dental treatment on Friday, August 26, 2011, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Dr. Diez said, "Many people have lost their dental coverage due to the bad economy and are having to forgo preventive dental care, which puts them in danger of tooth decay and gum disease that contributes to problems associated with diabetes, liver and heart problems."

The free dental treatments will be given at Dr. Diez's office called General and Cosmetic Dentistry. It's located at 5010 Gunn Highway, Tampa, FL 33624.

Dr. Diez says, "The Emergency Dental Treatment Day is designed to treat anyone for free who cannot afford dentistry. Anyone with a dental emergency or in need of a cleaning, who cannot afford it otherwise, will be provided with Emergency Dental Treatment at NO COST on a first-come, first-served basis. I would like to do my part as a dentist to help and hope others will join me in this effort by spreading the word."

He adds, "We will be conducting free emergency dental treatment in Tampa periodically throughout the year to help the less fortunate in our community."

Dental Emergencies

Dental emergencies don't happen that often, but when they do, immediate action is usually necessary.

If you are in pain, we will always try to see you within 30 minutes. If this occurs on a weekend, please call the office and I will either prescribe analgesics for the pain, or I will come down to the office to treat you.

Broken tooth

If you have a broken tooth or fracture, contact me as soon as possible. If the tooth is knocked out, place it in a glass of milk, call the office, and there is a good chance we can re-implant it. Try not to touch the root portion of the tooth.

Swelling

If you have swelling, an abscess, or a fever, always let me know as soon as possible. Waiting until Monday may be considerate, but it often makes it even harder to treat the problem if you wait.

Toothache

A toothache can be caused my many different things. Sometimes the nerve is dying, and you will need to have a root canal. Other times, you may have a gum abscess, and an antibiotic will solve the problem.

Whatever the cause, we will usually need to see you, and take an x-ray to decide what the cause is. Please call us when you have a toothache and let us take you out of pain - before it gets worse.

Teeth usually break as a result of trauma to the facial jaw or because of tooth decay. A fracture may be from biting down on something hard, a fall, curb playing or sports activity.

Pain when biting down may be the results of a fractured tooth root or its crown.Large breakage or deep fractures can hurt because of damage to the nerve and blood vessels inside of the tooth pulp. Exposure to air, saliva, hot or cold food or drink can be very painful.

A neglect of non treatment may eventually lead to enamel tooth discoloration with possible root tip lesions. One should see the dentist immediately for diagnosis and treatment. Proactive home care of your mouth, healthy nutrition, along with dental checkups and using proper protective oral appliances may prevent incidents of broken and fractured teeth.
