Are You Prepared for an Emergency?
Natural disasters, wars, "terrorist" attacks, virus outbreaks are everywhere. Time will tell which of these you will experience because these disasters are an inescapable part of the world. I don't mean to scare anyone but emergency preparedness is probably more important than ever.
Preparing for such disasters is probably the best and only thing you can do. Making at least some preparation is better than none and the following tips is a good start.

Plan for an Emergency
The best thing you can do to prepare for an emergency is planning. Plan for anything that can happen to you in any situation. Plan your gear, escape route, etc and put your survival gear where you can quickly grab it.
Prepare for everything including cases where you're on the road. Performing drills is a good way for everyone to know and understand what the plan is. Make the drills regular so that people won't forget.

The Medical Emergency Kit
The emergency kit you can buy at the camping store is a good base to start building a medical emergency kit. Add items that are not included in the kit as you discover them. Try the professional version of the emergency kit. It's still not complete but it's a very good place to start with.
The more medical supply you have, the better, but don't sacrifice your left kidney to get more. You can build it up slowly adding the most important ones first. "Too much" might not still be enough in a natural disaster but at least you did your best. Always buy extra bandages and antiseptic wipes for better protection.

Emergency Medical Skills
All that time and money to build an emergency kit won't do any good if you don't know how to use them. CPR, First Aid and AED are courses offered by the Red Cross that can help you get started.
Always improve your knowledge, learn about injury prevention, blood borne pathogens and community disaster. This skill can save a life.

Store Drinking Water
There might be a water shortage during an emergency so better stock up. Use durable containers that don't easily puncture to store the water and replace the water every three months. If you expect a disaster to come in the near future then fill up on your water storage.
The European Union have announced that it will ban the supply and sale of iodine for use in disinfecting drinking water. It will no longer be an option for many people. You can still count on the emergency water below though.

Stock Up on Food
Make you have enough food to last you as long as possible but sure they're still safe to eat. Dehydrated food is a good option because they last very long and comes in big packages so can stock up quite a lot.
Remember when stocking up on food that you might not be able to heat them up all the time because of limited resources. If you prepared well, you'll have no problem getting wood fire to heat up your food.

Cooking
In a an emergency situation, you might not have access to your normal stove to cook. Here's where a camp stove comes in. I recommend propane stoves because they're easy to use. Having hot food to eat keeps your body nourished and helps you deal with the cold better.
Emergency Lighting
In tornadoes and hurricanes, losing power is a very likely situation. That's why you need emergency lighting. If your light source is battery operated be sure you stock up on the right kind of battery.
Light sticks are great to have around when there is a power failure. Since light sticks are cheap, get several of them. They're a very good option for emergency lighting and comes in varying lengths of hours and different colors.

Emergency Tool Kits
Think about what tools you may need in an emergency. An axe can be extremely useful and so can the multi-tool but at a smaller scale. Remember the duct tape because you won't believe how useful it can be and make sure that you don't leave out the tools you would need to repair the stove.

Emergency Radio
Radios are useful in natural disaster emergencies for keeping up with the news and weather reports. A radio that uses batteries may be useful but you'll be left in the dark if you lose power. A wind-up radio can broadcast the news even without power.
