Being Prepared... the difference between life and death

In an emergency being prepared can mean the difference between life and death. Compact first aid kits, such as you might buy in a drugstore, with standard contents such as bandages and gauze will help for common cuts and injuries. But in a major emergency, "a sudden event bringing great damage, loss or destruction", you'll need to take some time to prepare an emergeny kit to ensure your survival.

Identifying the possible hazards and risks about to arise in your home and community will determine what kind emergency first aid kit you need to put together. Fire, Tornado, Hurricane, Earthquake, Electrical Storms, Explosions, Biological Threat, Chemical Threat, Nuclear Blast with Radiation, Floods, Cold and Heat Emergencies. These are different scenarios. Which one(s) concern you? Which ones are you likely to face?

Wilderness or Sports Kit?

Putting together a wilderness first aid kit might be a good idea if the anticipated emergency requires fleeing your home in case of wildfire, flood or any of the other scenarios listed above. Something like a sports first aid kit would work for the city dweller who feels secure and just wants to deal with muscle injuries, cuts, scrapes that go beyond the ordinary small wound but require more than a small bandaid solution
