My favorite BTR authors include Cynthia Rylant (Puppy Mudge series) and Mo Willems (Elephant and Piggie series). Both authors use easy to sound out and repetitive vocabulary bust while still highly engaging the reader. (It's harder than one would think when only using a few dozen words per book!) For more of a classical feel, I prefer Margaret Hillert. Her Dear Dragon series and classic fairytales combine great illustrations that allow children to understand the stories from the context of the pictures if they do not comprehend specific words.

I like Now I'm Reading series by Nora Gaydos for phonics, and Brand New Readers sets that fit your description of emergent readers.
Thanks for sharing your emergent reader choices. It is often hard to find good emergent reader books.

Wonderful choice of books. Our family will be forever grateful to Brandon's second grade teacher Mrs. ???...grrs at escaping her name, yet I see her face, remember her always being at Gales Creek Elementary PTO meetings and events. He broke out and started reading even the wrapping on toilet rolls :) Love what you do here Evelyn, thank you!

Thank you so much. It is wonderful to be able to make a difference it the lives of children, especially those who are just beginning to read.

The Beginning to Read series was always a favorite -- I Wish that I Had Duck Feet, Go, Dog Go, etc. When children begin to read is such an exciting time.

I have always loved the Beginning to Read series as well but found that it was too difficult at the very beginning. That is when I discovered the Red Nose Readers. Once children can read the Red Nose Readers they can easily start on the Beginning to Read books such as Go, Dog, Go or Hop on Pop.
