"Sightings of Emily Dickinson" at Squidoo for You

This page is a directory of all my lenses/pages at Squidoo that relate to my interest in the poems of Emily Dickinson.

As alot of people at Squidoo now know, I enjoy writing about Emily Dickinson poetry. Almost as much as I like to promote the poems to people who are not familiar with them. I am so thankful I was familiar with poems by Emily Dickinson any time my life went dark; and, when I had something special to rejoice about, that I knew some by heart to help me express it. I am on a personal quest to promote the poems, especially to people who are facing some sort of crisis.

The thing is, if you are like me, when a big event happens in your life, you reach for something familiar.

So, here I am hoping to drive home a great idea, make your new habit picking up a book of Emily Dickinson poems. When a crisis occurs, you'll know which poem to turn to.

The photograph is a composite I made from images of the Dickinson Homestead-June 2008 before removal of diseased trees, structural repairs and the fence project.

My Blog Let's Me Share With You How I Read A Poem by Emily Dickinson

One to two poems each week. A different poem each post.

Emily Dickinson used dashes liberally. Ellipses of thought are recognized by dashes sometimes. Sometimes a dash is used by Dickinson to emphasize its rhythm, to allow for a breath, and also to indicate that no word is adequate for the emotion being summoned or described. Every so often dashes act as a bridge between thoughts to help readers make the transition. Occasionally, a dash means "finished!"
