Emma Frost is a fictional character that appears in several Marvel Comics books. Emma Frost, also known as the White Queen, was created by writer Chris Claremont and artist/co-writer John Byrne and first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #129 in January 1980. Emma Frost is known for her dry wit, mutant telepathic abilities and dressing in revealing white clothing (which arguably contributed to her being named IGN Comic's "Hottest Comic Book Babe" in 2005).

In her early appearances, Emma Frost was an enemy of the X-Men and firmly entrenched in Sebastian Shaw's Hellfire Club, however she is no longer an enemy of the X-Men and now fights with them rather than against them.

Origins

Emma Frost's origins are spread out across many books. The 18 issue solo series entitled Astonishing X-Men: Emma Frost attempted to Frost's early years from her time in high school through to her first appearance as the White Queen however it was canceled before it reached its conclusion.

Emma Frost was born in Boston, Massachusetts (although for some reason many people seem to assume she is British). She is the second of three daughters and also had an older brother, Christian. Frost's father was cold and domineering while her mother often abused prescription drugs to cope with the tension. While Frost's family are quite wealthy, she turns her back on the family fortune after her father betrays her and commits her brother to a mental institution following a suicide attempt.

Frost then finds herself on the street before falling in love with Troy, who provides her a place to live. Frost learns that Troy owes money to a local mobster and a fake kidnapping plan is hatched to erase Troy's debt. Things go wrong, Troy is killed, and just as Emma Frost is about to join him, her powers manifest. Escaping with the ransom money, she enrolled in a university, and went on to audition as a dancer for the Hellfire Club. The Hellfire Club would eventually come under the control of Sebastian Shaw, thanks in large part to Emma Frost's help. The Hellfire Club go on to be a key protagonist in many major X-Men stories.

The Generation X series reveals several details of Emma Frost's origins. Generation X # 1 showed the first meeting of Emma Frost, Banshee and the Dark Beast. In a flashback story told by Frost herself in Generation X #24, Frost details a time she spent in a mental institution after being sent there by her parents.

In X-Men: Deadly Genesis, Frost is shown as a stripper at the Hellfire Club. Frost is approached by Professor X and Moira MacTaggert to join a new team of X-Men. Xavier's approach is turned down with this event subsequently mentally erased from everyone's minds by Xavier.
