Welcome to the revolutionary new complementary therapy Emotional Freedom Techniques.

Explore the useful information on this page to find out how Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) can improve your life.

This lens is your EFT bare bones starting block.

What is EFT?

The therapy is known as 'Emotional Freedom Technique' (EFT) and it is exciting psychologists all over the world because of its rapid and profoundly powerful results for all kinds of emotional problems.

EFT is an ultra-modern complementary therapy, but one that has its origins in ancient Chinese medicine. It works on the body's energy systems, and was developed by a now-famous Gary Craig following the discovery that imbalances in your energy systems can have profound effects on personal psychology.

Simply stated, it is a unique version of acupuncture except you don't use needles. Instead, you stimulate well established energy meridian points on your body by tapping on them with your fingertips. The process is easy to memorize and is portable so you can do it anywhere.

"What can EFT do for me?"

Emotional Freedom Technique can help you if
your life is being haunted by:

* Stress

* Anxiety or panic attacks

* Post traumatic stress disorder

* Grief, sadness or depression

* Fears or phobias

* Low self-esteem or limiting beliefs

* Addictive cravings

* Relationship problems

Emotional Freedom Technique:

* is gentle

* is rapid

* is effective

* involves no drugs or equipment

* and is producing truly astounding results

"How does EFT work?"

Electrical messages are constantly sent through your body to keep it informed of what's going on. Without this energy flow you would not be able to see, hear, taste, smell or touch.

It has been proven that disruptions or blockages in these electrical pathways can cause limiting thoughts and emotions and lead to ill-health.

EFT uses gentle pressure on meridian points - the body's electrical, or energy pathways - to change the way energy travels around the body. By tapping and pressing on the meridian points, small shock waves are sent through the energy system which stimulates smooth flow and clears blockages.

In short, it works like acupuncture, but without the needles.

"What makes EFT unique?"

If you have spent weeks, months, or even years trying various drugs, counselling sessions and alternative therapies in a desperate search for relief from your emotional problems, 'Emotional Freedom Techniques' may come as something little short of a miracle.

* EFT often works where nothing else will

* EFT usually gives rapid, long-lasting and gentle relief

* EFT does not involve drugs or equipment

* EFT can be easily learned by anyone and can be taught by telephone

* EFT can be discreetly self-applied

* EFT often also alleviates persistent physical problems

"How effective is EFT?"

Where EFT is properly applied, over 80% of EFT clients achieve either noticeable improvement or complete elimination of their problem.

Some people achieve relief within minutes - literally - of receiving EFT. Others may require a few sessions to really benefit.

It is particularly effective for conditions such as anxiety where clients are often unable to pinpoint the exact reason for their unease.

However, in the case of serious psychological problems, EFT should not be seen as a substitute for medical advice from your GP. You should always consult your GP or existing care provider prior to engaging in complementary therapies.

"What does EFT feel like?"

EFT involves the application of light pressure or gentle tapping on particular points around your body. It is an incredibly gentle technique and you remain relaxed and fully clothed at all times.

The treatment should not be too emotionally painful as there is no need for an EFT practitioner to know in great detail all about the root cause of the problem. The focus is on the body's energy flow rather than unpleasant memories or negative thoughts.

You will, within a few minutes of receiving the treatment, feel a greater sense of calm and, often for the first time in a long while, a fresh perspective and renewed optimism about your life.

What's more, because EFT is a technique that can be learned and applied by anyone, it will give you back control of your life and fill you with a new sense of confidence.

"Is EFT just some fad?"

It's only natural to view innovations with skepticism, particularly those that relate to our health and which promise rapid results.

However, EFT is based on sound scientific principles and, whilst still in its relatively early days, has been found clinically effective in thousands of cases.

What's more, you don't have to believe in the technique for it to work:

"I was very cynical about 'alternative' therapies and suspicious of the people that performed them. However, after years of smoking 40 cigarettes a day, my doctor told me that if I didn't stop I wouldn't have long to live and I realised I had to try everything possible to kick the habit. I was introduced to EFT by a friend 12 weeks ago, and after 90 minutes of gentle tapping on various pressure points combined with a few positive statements that I repeated, I felt confident that I could leave the room and not need to light up a cigarette ever again. 12 weeks on and I still haven't touched a cigarette. EFT has saved my life." John McClean

"Does EFT complement any other therapies?"

Because there are no drugs or invasive procedures involved in the application of EFT, it is perfectly safe to use it alongside other forms of medication and complementary therapies.

However, EFT offers such quick and effective results that you may not feel the need to use additional therapies.

"What are the limitations of EFT?"

Despite the amazing results achieved through EFT for a wide variety of psychological and physiological problems, EFT is a complementary therapy and should not be seen as a remedy or a substitute for medical treatment in the case of acute problems.

EFT cannot cure cancer or any chronic illness.

However, it can reduce, or even eliminate, the stress and fears surrounding the illness.

"Can I perform EFT on myself?"

In the majority of cases, only one or two sessions are required before you are sufficiently knowledgeable to be able to practise EFT on yourself.

However in some instances, where there is a particularly difficult emotional problem, it can be frightening to tackle the problem alone or difficult to know the quickest way to alleviate it. In these cases, further sessions with myself achieve the best results.

Your EFT practitioner will assess your problem at the outset and suggest which is the best approach for you.

Stress

Emotional Freedom Techniques and Stress

Stress is an emotion we experience when placed under pressure. Pressure in itself is not necessarily bad - many people thrive on it - but when it exceeds your ability to cope it can clearly be linked to ill-health.

If you suffer from stress the best way to ease the situation is to reduce the external pressures on you. However, more often than not, these pressures are part of every day working or family life and cannot easily be controlled. In these circumstances you need to learn how to find effective coping mechanisms.

EFT is very effective for stress as it enables you to stay calm and feel more at peace with yourself. It also helps you to view the pressures you face with a new perspective. Once taught, EFT can be applied by the individual easily and discreetly, which makes it a practical therapy for use on a daily basis.

Anxiety

Emotional Freedom Techniques and Anxiety

Anxiety is a feeling of unease. It is normal to feel anxious when faced with something difficult or dangerous, but for 1 in 10 people in the UK anxiety interferes with normal life.

Anxiety is considered abnormal when it is prolonged or severe, it interferes with everyday activity or it happens in the absence of a stressful event. Severe anxiety often leads to depression.

EFT has proven results in addressing the causes of anxiety and providing the possibility for permanent relief.

Regardless of the situation that triggers it, the feeling of anxiety is often nothing more than a disruption in your body's energy system. Clinical studies using EFT have shown that the cause of that disruption is most often related to an unresolved emotional issue, and that by realigning your body's energy with respect to that issue, the anxiety can disappear.

EFT is very effective for anxiety: it often works where nothing else will as it is often difficult for the affected individual to pinpoint the exact cause of the anxiety.

Panic Attacks

Emotional Freedom Techniques and Panic Attacks

A panic attack is a sudden surge of irrational and overwhelming fear that comes without warning and for no obvious reason.

It is far more intense than simply a feeling of being stressed out and will often result in you feeling breathless, dizzy and filled with a sense of impending doom. Panic attacks can occur after you have been exposed to weeks or months of stress.

EFT can provide rapid relief for Panic Attacks. Once you have learned the EFT process (which is likely after 1 or 2 treatment sessions), you can apply it at the onset of an attack and, in most cases, it will rapidly "bring you down" within minutes.

This is an astonishing experience for long term sufferers!

Post Traumatic Stress

Emotional Freedom Techniques and Post Traumatic Stress

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder may follow after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event such as a major accident or military combat. You may suffer repeated nightmares or flashbacks to the event.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can be extremely debilitating and often leaves you filled with terror about completing normal daily activities.

EFT enables you to put the traumatic event in perspective and gain new insight into the problem. EFT has been used successfully to help Vietnam war veterans and witnesses of the 9/11 disaster in the United States.

Grief and Sadness

Emotional Freedom Techniques and Grief and Sadness

Although it is normal to grieve, some people suffer intense grief that lasts for a prolonged period of time and often leads to depression and an inability to function.

EFT allows you to tap away the grief and sadness. You can experience cognitive shifts in perception and an ability to accept your circumstances at a deeper level. The shift is natural, and allows good memories without the constant pain.

You can experience the love, and not the pain of loss.

Fears and Phobias

Emotional Freedom Techniques and Fears and Phobias

A phobia is a fear out of proportion to the real danger posed by the thing or event that triggered it.

Phobias interfere with your ability to lead a normal life.

The most common phobias are agoraphobia (fear of open spaces), claustrophobia (fear of confined spaces), fear of spiders, snakes, blood and heights.

Unlike phobias, a fear may not interfere with your ability to lead a normal life but will seriously restrict your ability to enjoy life. For example, one of the most common fears is a fear of public speaking: this can restrict your progress at work as well as ruining your social life.

By using EFT, both fears and phobias can usually be eliminated rapidly and permanently.

Low Self Esteem

Emotional Freedom Techniques and Low Self Esteem

As adults, we have a set of beliefs largely borne out of the various influences we were exposed to as a child. These become ingrained in our characters and often restrict us from achieving our true potential because they sometimes limit our expectations of life.

EFT can transform the way you think, giving you more self-acceptance and increased self-worth.

The results are improved relationships with loved ones and work colleagues and the confidence to realise you true potential and achieve your dreams.

Low Self Esteem

Emotional Freedom Techniques and Low Self Esteem

In today's health conscious society we are constantly made aware of the need to watch our diets, stop smoking, cut down on alcohol and give up many more unhealthy habits.

More often than not, the eating, smoking or drinking will be a physical consolation for an emotional problem. If the emotional problem can be removed, self-esteem is restored and there is no longer a desperate need to fill an empty hole.

EFT allows you to tap away your addictive cravings and make more healthy choices in life.
