Emotional Responses and Logic

With Emotional Responses and Logic, scientific investigations leave no room for emotional interpretations. This is due to their quantitative nature, in which both you and I can look at one number on a bottom line and identify identically. This is because we have taken the time to calibrate our perception of reality in accordance with the society around us.

Emotions play an enormous role in our perception of reality, as evident in courtroom tactics played by opposing side of an observed event. Say for example, the difference between a "horrendous collision" or a "slight fender-bender".

Emotion vs. Logic in our Desires for Pleasure

What came first, the chicken (the Emotion) or the egg (the Thought)?

Consider the way we fulfill our everyday desires. I'm sitting here, minding my own business, when suddenly I realize I am hungry. Next, and just as quickly, a train of thought appears which guides me through the process of getting me food. Just follow these easy steps:

  • Get up.
  • Walk to the refrigerator...
  • And make a sandwich.
It is a well-known fact that sandwiches are essential to humanity's survival.

So what happened here? Did I consciously premeditate my hunger?

Suppose the same situation for a deeper emotion, like love. Do we choose who we fall in love with? Or is it the case that once we fall in love, we proceed by employing our mental faculties to acquire the object of desire?

Consider what you want at this moment, and how quickly the plan for getting it begins to form in your mind.

Think about it. Feel it. Read it.
