Emotional management

Emotional management means taking conscious control of your attitude and making it positive.

This is crucial because attitude often becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

People act NOT ONLY according to:

1. The situation
2. Their knowledge

But also to:
1. Their feelings
2. Their mood.

Emotional Management

Is the art of controlling the focus of your mind and the physical state of your body, so as to create optimum emotional responses appropriate to the circumstances that face you.

Consider this suggestion....

...and ponder the implications.

"You are what you are,
You do what you do,
And you feel the way you feel,
Primarily because of the habitual thoughts
That you allow to dominate your mind."

James Allen

Man is made or unmade by himself; in the armoury of thought he forges the weapons by which he destroys himself. He also fashions the tools with which he builds for himself heavenly mansions of joy and strength and peace. By the right choice and true application of thought, man ascends to the Divine Perfection; by the abuse and wrong application of thought, he descends below the level of the beast. Between these two extremes are all the grades of character, and man is their maker and master.

As a man thinketh

  • A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts

  • Every action and feeling is preceded by a thought

  • Right thinking begins with the words we say to ourselves

  • If anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think and talk about such things.

Positive Mental Attitude (PMA)

A Positive Mental Attitude is:

“A habitual way of thinking that creates consistent feelings of enthusiasm, determination, motivation”

It is not innate (like eye colour or blood type) but is often habitual, unconscious and by the time we reach adulthood, deeply ingrained.

A positive mental attitude has major advantages that contribute to productivity.

Namely

  1. Goal focus

  2. Confidence

  3. Ambition

  4. Energy

Negative Mental Attitude

A Negative Mental Attitude is:

“A habitual way of thinking that creates consistent feelings of cynicism, pessimism, inertia and over”

A negative mental attitude is not innate either, but is often habitual, unconscious and deeply ingrained in the character.

"Negative mental attitudes" have numerous disadvantages to the atmosphere and productivity of a team.

  3. Fear

  4. Worry

John

John is the most intelligent and educated person I know.
But he feels depressed and beaten.
So he loses more often than he wins.
He is unable to manage his emotions.
And he pays a severe price.

Anna

Anna is not as well educated as John, but she has a great attitude,
She never feels beaten.
So she rarely is!
Anna IS able to manage her emotions.
It helps her to achieve whatever she sets her sights on.

Develop your Mind control

Your body responds automatically, instantly and unerringly to the thoughts that occupy your mind.
  1. If you have bad thoughts you feel bad.

  2. If you have good thoughts you feel good.

  3. If you have mixed thoughts you will have mixed feelings.

A positive mental attitude relies on your ability to control and direct your thoughts:
  1. Consistently

  2. For extended periods

  3. Irrespective of what others are doing.

  4. Irrespective of what others are saying to you.

The only thing over which you have complete and unchallengeable control is:
Your own mind.

Important!

Your Most Important Aim

Take control of your mind and direct ALL of your mental powers towards ONLY fruitful issues.

Direct and control the focus of your mind

To the degree to which you allow your mind and conversation to dwell upon the "bad past" you will feel bitterness and resentment.

To the degree to which you allow your mind and conversation to dwell upon the "good past" you will feel nostalgic and a faint sense of loss.

To the degree to which you allow your mind and conversation to dwell upon the "bad future" you will feel worry, fear and stress.

You will inspire enthusiasm, motivation and confidence to the degree to which you are able to direct the conversation towards the FUTURE GOOD.

Which pattern of thought habitually dominates your mind and conversation?

Take control of your mind and your conversation and direct it to the FUTURE GOOD.
Important!

Remember this

You will inspire enthusiasm, motivation and confidence to the degree to which you are able to direct the majority of your conversation towards the FUTURE GOOD.

Thank you for creating a lens on emotional intelligence!

Emotions are so critical to master, they are not taught in college which gives tremendous advantage to those who read your lens.

I also find fascinating info about emotions at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotion

P.S. Chris Diamond just liked this lens, nothing to brag about it, but this lens has some useful stuff! ;-)

Hi everyone - I just published an article on Effective Stress Management. If you are affected by stress, it helps to understand the cause and symptoms in order to find ways how to deal with it.

I hope you will find it helpful

Sometimes I have to consciously change my attitude (in the positive direction, of course), but after a while the good thoughts become "natural" and less of an effort. Now that I own my own business and work alone much of the time, I don't have the positive attitudes of others to feed off of as much (or the negative attitudes either, for that matter), so I've had to do more "work" on what you call emotional management. Great food for thought here. :)
