This Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) 5 Day Externship is designed to equip professionals to work more effectively with couples. EFT is a proven-effective model (with a success rate of 90% effectiveness and 72% recovery rates), combining the theory of adult love with a systematic map for using that theory to heal distressed couple relationships, and in turn the well-being of the rest of the family. EFT is a short-term approach developed by Susan M. Johnson (Ottawa Couple and Family Institute, Canada) and is based on John Bowlby's Attachment Theory. It reflects the most recent research on the nature of relationship distress, of adult love, and of emotion, and is at the cutting edge of the new era of couple therapy. It is one of the most empirically supported models of couple therapy and is widely growing in popularity.

This is the first time this official Externship has been offered in Italy and can be taken further, as this Externship is a step towards becoming a certified EFT therapist. For further details about the certification process please refer to Susan Johnson's International Centre for Excellence in EFT (ICEEFT).

In this Externship, you will learn to:

* see marital distress from an attachment perspective
* help partners reprocess the emotional responses that maintain marital distress
* shape key new interaction and bonding events and,
* overcome therapeutic impasses.

"Becca" began clinical practice during her first undergraduate practicum course in 1989, where, initially working with children, she quickly realized that working with parents created more change, safety and help for these children.

Her interest has always been in relationships and families. Her interest in relationships and families grew, and her first postgraduate in-depth couple training was with John Gottman and his "Scientifically Based Marital Therapy," where she was introduced to the phenomenal work of Dr. Susan Johnson and her model of couple's therapy.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) revolutionized Becca's work with couples, dramatically reducing their divorce rate. She completed advanced training with Dr. Johnson, becoming certified as an EFT Therapist and Supervisor.

With years of experience as an EFT trainer, Becca is one of the handful of endorsed trainers in the U.S. on Dr. Johnson's team. She is devoted to strengthening families through helping couples develop safe and secure marital bonds and helping other therapists learn more effective couple's therapy.

In addition to training therapists in Emotionally Focused Therapy throughout North America, she also specializes in distance and online education. She has taught Psychology, Family Life Courses and Counselor Education for many years Having recently moved to San Diego from Rexburg, Idaho where she was clinical faculty at BYU-Idaho, she currently holds a Faculty position at Alliant University San Diego, and is Director of the Training and Research Institute for EFT at Alliant. She continues to maintain a clinical practice in conjunction with her passion for advancing education and training in Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Rebecca will lead a format of both theory and clinical technique presentations, video examples of EFT sessions, participation in skill training exercises, and discussion on specific cases, clinical material and issues.

Pronto Seminars maintains a maximum seminar size of 40, so each participant gets plenty of time with Rebecca, and each other.

Day 1, Monday June 21st:
Introduction to Couple Therapy and EFT. EFT Basics - Systemic, Experiential, Emotion. Attachment Theory - a Theory of Adult Love. Overview: The Three Stages & 9 Steps of EFT.

Day 2, Tuesday June 22nd:
Stage One: Assessment, Alliance, Steps 2-4.

Day 3, Wednesday June 23rd:
EFT Interventions. Stage Two: Change Events.

Day 4, Thursday June 24th:
Trauma and attachment. Attachment injuries

Day 5, Thursday June 25th::
Forgiveness and Reconciliation. Stage Three - Steps 8 & 9. Becoming an EFT Therapist.

Certificate of Completion: Participants will receive a certificate stating they have completed an ICEEFT (Sue Johnson EFT) approved externship.

Villa Rinascimento is a gorgeous and most relaxing 15th Century grand villa nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscany, near the seaside towns of Lucca and Pisa. Free afternoons and evenings afford plenty of time for rest, relaxation, and excursions with family, friends, and new friends.

Prices are per room (not per person) and include breakfast and lunch or dinner (i.e.: "half board")

Room Rates Include Half Board: This means each person in the room receives breakfast AND one additional meal per day. Each day you can choose to have lunch OR dinner at the Villa. The Villa will be creating a specialty menu each day for our group. Beverages are included also.

Room Rates are Per Room, Not Per Person: For example, if you are traveling with a companion and require a double room, the cost per person would be 94 Euro per person (for the Main Villa) or 70 Euro per person (in the Annex) each night, and that includes breakfast and one other meal for each of you.
