Ranked #8,160 in Business & Work, #212,348 overall

Every youth leadership training program should contain 2 key ingredients - an educational component and a service learning component. While the former provides the opportunity to disseminate important information and creatively engage participants, the latter provides the opportunity to apply what is learned and gain experience.

The Back to Basics Leadership Program serves as a good model that can be replicated and tailored to meet the unique needs of your youth group. Learn how to mix the main ingredients. Since 2002, the program has been successfully delivered to youth in a variety of settings.

At the same time, see what the representatives of different organizations and youth say about the program. As you know, the proof is always in the pudding.

Read on to get a closer view. You're guaranteed to see more light.

2 Components to Include in Youth Leadership Training

"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way."
John C. Maxwell

Back to Basics Leadership Training goes all the way to chalenge youth ages 13-17 to climb new heights. How is this accomplished? Back to Basics offers invigorating seminars and stimulating service learning projects. These two components are the foundation of the program.

5 BENEFITS:

* Youth develop skills in leadership, communication, problem solving, critical thinking, and human relations.

* Youth build confidence.

* Youth gain valuable experience through stimulating service learning projects.

* Youth get positive results.

* Youth receive current, cutting edge techniques, strategies and solutions.

1. INVIGORATING SEMINARS

First, the topics must be relevant. If the topic is not relevant, it weakens the curriculum. The thrust of the Back to Basics Program is strengthening teenagers in the basics. Some of the topics include:

What it Takes to Lead
Present Yourself with Poise and Confidence
Etiquette
Time Management
Goal Setting
Practical Money Skills
The Importance of Giving

The educational component prepares participants for the service learning project. So, take the time to ensure that you're doing it right.

Secondly, the course has to create energy, engage learners, and meet different learning styles. The days of the talking head are gone. With teenagers, using highly interactive exercises is essential. At the same time, technology needs to be included.

Third, the facilitator needs to be passionate and skilled. Let's face it. The instructor brings the course to life. Even if the curriculum is shaky, a skilled and passionate instructor can breathe life into it.

2. STIMULATING SERVICE LEARNING PROJECTS

The Back to Basics Leadership Program connects youth with leaders in the non-profit sector, business, and government. These service learning projects concern real issues, and participants express their areas of interest. In addition, students are mentored by positive role models.

How do you select partner organizations? Seek partners who are committed to contributing the development of youth.
