First of all, I'm not a cook but I have a working experience in household products.  Hopefully, this blog can be a good source of information and can be your guide to choose the right cookware for your family.

Why Material is so important? 

What is your cookware made from?

It is important to know the material of your cooking utensils since it will have a direct contact with the food you are preparing for your family. In this blog, I only discuss about cookware with metal as the basic material. Can we use all metals and turn it into cookware? Of course not. The metal must have the ability to deliver heat evenly and not having a chemical reaction at the same time.

Is the material of cookware affecting the food quality? Well, some cooks I met believe the material you choose for your cookware can make a very big difference since every material conducts heat differently. The rate at which a material conducts heat determines how long it will take to cook your food. While the length of time you need to cook will affect how the food will actually taste.

Enameled Cast Iron 

Enameled cast iron has a hard porcelain enamel coating that provides a permanent finish to prevent the cast iron from reacting with the food being cooked. It also comes in many colors and doesn't require seasoning.

As the result of having enamel surface, the pot can also be used for marinating food prior to cooking or for food storage after cooking. Best of all, the enameled version doesn't absorb moisture, flavors or odors and it's dishwasher safe which can reduce the headache of cleaning up the mess after cooking.

Without having a difference from the original version of Cast Iron, the enameled one can be used on stove, in the oven or under the grill. This type of cookware is also suitable for use on all heat sources including electric, gas, ceramic, halogen top and induction.

With all additional advantages, the enameled cast iron is still having the most typical advantage from the original version that is having a superior conductor of heat.

Care & Use 

  • Preheat the pot then add oil or other preferred liquid to the pot
  • Always use only wooden, plastic or heat resistant nylon tools, to avoid scratching the enamel surface
  • If the pot is using metal or heat resistance plastic handle, it can be used into oven with maximum temperature up to 200° C
  • Let the pot cool down naturally after use. Do Not pour any cold water on hot pot which can damage the enamel
  • Use hot soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly
  • Always use plastic or sponge scourer only to remove any stubborn food residues

Warning 

Things you cannot do with your enameled cast iron

  • Do not let the pot got hit or drop the enameled cast iron. Enamel surface can get chip off or break. Do not use the utensil if any chip or break on the inside part of the pot
  • The quality of heat resistance plastic handle is varied from each company. Check out the care & use instruction which should be included inside the package before placing the utensil into oven
  • Never use any metal tool or abrasive cleaner. It will scratch the enamel surface
