Giselle is the beautiful almost Princess in this story. Like Snow White she sings and has animal friends that help her out. She is the protagonist whom is seen as pure and innocent. Robert describes her as escaping from a Hallmark card. Her perfect world disappears as Narcissa pulls her out of her fairy tale existence in Andalaysia and thrusts her into an unfriendly New York City.

Robert, a prominent New York City Divorce Attorney, showcases his practicality when it comes to love and romance. He evaluates a mate's strength and weaknesses to see if they are compatible. He doesn't believe in fairy tales or true love. Robert is a single father devastated by a prior relationship. He rejects the concept of happily ever after because he is afraid of getting hurt again. That is why he has been dating Nancy for five years. When faced with Giselle's optimism ,however, he might have to reconsider his cynical New York attitude.

Prince Edward is the romantic hero. He falls in love instantly and will do anything to protect the woman who finishes his duet. His interests include hunting down trolls. He is brave and not afraid to express his love in song. He is naive to his step-mothers plans to keep him away from any eligible maidens in order for her to keep her position of queen. He is confident and self assured with an air of superiority. After all, he is a Prince. He is loyal, honest and good. He believes everything ends happily ever after.

Queen Narcissa like her name suggests
is a classic narcissist. She only cares about
herself. She wants to keep her position as
queen at any cost; her step-son's happiness,
Nathaniel's dignity, and Giselle's life.

Nathaniel the queen's henchman, people pleaser, longs to be accepted and loved by Queen Narcissa. He allows himself to be easily manipulated into doing horrible things. We soon discover that he has no self respect and his journey from cartoon character to real person provides him the opportunity to question what he believes about himself. The journey to New York represents his journey of self discovery. By the end of the movie he is able to redeem himself and any sins he has committed are easily forgiven.

This Chipmunk is a girl's best friend. He shares Giselle's hopes and dreams, helps her with projects and wardrobe. Most importantly Pip will do anything for his friend. Pip is loyal and will jump into the unknown, without any hesitation, to try and save his friend, even at his own peril. Like Cassandra from Greek myth he is cursed to know the truth, but unable to get anyone to understand him. Pip is example of perseverance. He never gives up even when the odds are stacked against him.

Robert: You're crazy!
Queen Narissa: No. Spiteful, vindictive, very large, but never crazy.

Prince Edward: You've met your match, you foul bellowing beast!
Bus Driver: Everybody stay on the bus.
Prince Edward: Giselle? My love?
Pip : Giselle?
Prince Edward: Right. The steel beast is dead peasants! I've set you all free!

Arty: Let me guess. You're looking for a beautiful girl, too?
Nathaniel: No, actually, I'm looking for a prince.
Arty: Riight.

Nathaniel: I've always treated her like a queen, but... lately I'm starting to feel there's this whole other side to her, like I... I don't even know her anymore.
Radio Host: I think you need to take her aside and find out how she really feels about you.
Queen Narissa: (appears by Nathaniel) Hello, Worthless. Miss me?

Giselle: Oh, it's you.
Prince Edward: Yes, it's me. And you are?
Giselle: Giselle.
Prince Edward: Oh, Giselle! We shall be married in the morning!
