The appliances that you have in your house will consume approximately 13 percent of your homes electricity. About another 3 percent will be used by any other electronic devices you have. This does not include your main electrical devices like your home entertainment unit, telephones, and power adaptors that use 11 percent of the energy that you use each month.

This means that the appliances and other electrical devices use over 30 percent of your total home energy usage. Luckily the way you can reduce this amount is by simple common sense things such as turn them off and unplugging them from the wall when not in use.

Electricity Saving Tips - Heating

Honeywell RTH7600D Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable Thermostat

Having the Thermostat Settings set at the correct temperature is one of best heating tips that you can get.

It is recommended that in winter you have your thermostat set to 68 degrees F (20 C) during the day and 60 degrees F (16 C) at night or when nobody is home.

During summer, 75 degrees F (23 C) during the day and 80 degrees F (26 C) at night or when nobody is home.

These are only suggestions because depending on the climate where you live it may be slightly different. The main thing to remember is that each degree you move your Thermostat can increase your energy consumption by 3 percent.

The one problem with different settings for night and day winter and summer is that you have to remember to change them. The best way to overcome this problem is to use a Programmable Thermostat and program it so that it turns the heat down at night or when nobody is home.

If you lower your thermostat 10 to 15 degrees for 8 hours each day could save you about 15 percent of your heating bill.
