So, Are Energy Drinks Bad for You?

The medical community seems to think most Energy Drinks aren't good, but they still can't prove that they're bad - at least when consumed as intended and with a little common sense. So which is it: are energy Drinks bad for us or is it all just urban myth?

Since the so-called "experts" don't know, I'll leave this decision to the real experts - the Squidoo Community.

FRIEND or FOE?

Loading

Friend: I can't get through my day without one (or three).

Georgia says:

Kept me awake to 'study' for that exam!

Anthonius says:

Helps me pass chemistry

HawaiianEnergySports says:

As with most things, it is about moderation. All products are not the same, so you really have to look at the ingredients. Personally, I prefer the shot-type products over carbonated products.

KarenTBTEN says:

I am one of those people who reacts atypically to caffeine, who can drink it and go right to sleep, who finds it rather calming actually. Not all energy drinks are the same; aside from the caffeine, the list of ingredients varies quite a lot. Some really agree with me, though. I like Super C powdered energy drink best.

Foe: You're all gonna die.

karmicchristian says:

All of us are gonna die with or without energy drinks. :) Personally I'd rather recommend a tender coconut or fresh fruit juice. Thanks.

ohcaroline says:

I don't know if they will kill you...but probably won't do you any good either besides a jump start in your day. I've never had one...

FitnessUncovered says:

I say foe, mainly because they are used by people on a continual basis to see them through the day. The odd energy drink is not going to do any harm, but constant usage has health implications (increased heart rate and blood pressure) and tolerance to ingredients such as caffeine will heighten, leading to diminishing effects. If you have low energy levels throughout the day, your first port of call should be your dietary intake (and then your doctor).

TheCureForYouthMinistry says:

I'll say foe. I had a red bull wen they first came out and it jacked me up. I do like the Monster java's though. I like coffee.

Mrmakingusmile says:

too many hgihs and lows.

ajgodinho says:

I've personally tried several types of energy drinks and most of them have the "crash and burn" effect to it because they are high-glycemic and the combination of ingredients in them. Most of them are bad if taken over a long period of time because they add to the oxidative damage to our bodies. However, there are few energy drinks in the market that are healthy alternatives and I've found a natural one that works for me called Rev3 which is essentially made from green and white tea. I don't take it often, but it works for me when I do occasionally.

fanfreluche says:

They used to be banned in many countries, but since money talks, some countries lift the banned and now from time to time in the news we see some young people dying because of them. They are not good, filled with junk and the caffeine in it is enough to give you a cardiac arrest. They should be banned.

ToTheBrimm says:

No thanks. I don't know if they're bad for me, but I don't like how they make me feel.

Energy Drinks and the FDA

Update on Caffeinated Alcoholic Beverages
Since issuing the Warning Letters, the FDA has had discussions with all four companies. As a result of those discussions, significant progress has been made towards getting the caffeinated alcoholic beverages at issue off the market.

GOOD FOR US OR NOT, ENERGY DRINKS ARE HERE TO STAY.

At Least Until Something Newer Comes Along.

This lens contains no medical advise. It is intended for entertainment purposes only. If you have a sensitivity to any of the ingredients in an Energy Drink or have any serious concerns, you probably should seek the advice of a professional.

Be careful. Don't mix Energy Drinks with alcohol; I'm not a prude, this is just not a good idea.

Thanks for participating and
