Energy Medicine: Energy-Based Therapies

from healing.about.com

Energy Medicine is a term used for holistic healing therapies that are focused on manipulating "life force" to bring about balance and wellness. Some energy-based modalities involve practitioners using hands-on techniques. Other therapies involve non-touch or absentia treatments. Specific areas treated are the aura, human energy field, chakras, and the meridian syste

1. Reiki

Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) is a combination of two Japanese words rei and ki meaning universal life energy. Reiki is an ancient laying-on of hands healing technique that uses the life force energy to heal, balancing the subtle energies within our bodies. Reiki addresses physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances

2. Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used holistic medical procedures in the world. The word 'acupuncture' describes a variety of procedures involving stimulation of anatomical points on the body by using a variety of techniques. Acupuncture points are believed to be points that allow entry into channels. This is to redirect, increase or decrease the body's vital substance, Qi (pronounced Chi) and restore balance on an emotional, spiritual and physical level.

3. Kolaimni

Kolaimni is a non-touch form of energy medicine. A trained Kolaimnist will work with her hands within the body's electromagnetic sheath (human energy field), approximately one half to one inch over the physical body. Short manipulative strokes infuse restorative energies into the recipient. Kolaimni's methodology has been described as an "etheric massage.

4. Pranic Healing

Pranic Healing is a nontouch energy-based technique that accelerates the healing process through the use of "life-force" being directed to the part of the physical body that needs healing. In order to locate blockages of chi, the Pranic practitioner scans the recipient's aura or "energy field." Chi energies are then projected through the Pranic practitioner's palm chakras to cleanse, energize, and revitalize the problematic area.

5. Matrix Energetics

Based on the science behind quantum physics Matrix Energetics is a transformational healing technique that merges touch and intent. The Matrix Energetics practitioner's focused intent affects changes that bring about healing for the recipient. The practitioner's touch is used to identify areas on the body that need attention.

6. Ama-Deus

Ama-Deus is a method of hands-on and absentia energy healing that promotes spiritual growth and awareness. It is also a means to support our physical and emotional bodies. This healing modality is taught in two levels. Students are taught a ceremonial invocation that connects them to the flow of Ama Deus energy.

Huna, in Hawaiian, means "secret." Huna, in its purest form is ancient knowledge enabling a person to connect to his or her highest wisdom within. Understanding and utilizing the fundamentals or "seven principles" of Huna is intended to bring about healing and harmony through the power of the mind.

9. Quantum Touch

Quantum-Touch is a vibrational touch therapy that incorporates touch, breath work, and body awareness meditations. Its concepts are closely related to polarity therapy. It is primarily a light-touch energy therapy, but it is secondarily promoted as a therapy that helps bones to spontaneously adjust to their proper alignment.

10. Johrei Healing

During a Johrei session the Johrei practitioner and client sit in chairs facing one another. The Johrei practitioner holds an opened palm toward the recipient while focusing and directing ki energies toward his or her client.

Healing Wisdom

from www.selfgrowth.com

Prior to the development of modern "allopathic" medicine in the Industrial Age, cultures had special individuals who held special knowledge and insight into the healing of their tribe and communities. They understood the healing properties of herbs and plants, communicated with nature and animals, studied the heavens and predicted the future. Indigenous peoples and "third world" cultures still enjoy the special abilities of these "natural" healers.

These healings learned from master teachers to whom they were apprenticed. The teachings were experiential, not from books. They lived with their master teacher and learned by observation and oral teachings. When they were ready, their teacher would pass down the ancient techniques of healing, developed over the long centuries through inspiration, intuition, trial and error.

These healers were the shamans of the Native Americans, the Mayan Curanderos, the Incans, the Vedic healers of India, the Druids of Europe, the barefoot Chinese healers and presence healers of the Orient, the acupuncturists, the "witch doctors" of African tribes, the Pygmies, the Aborigines, the witches, the wizards and the alchemists, and more. Although their mythology and techniques differed, they all shared a common wisdom --- that healing comes from the inside.

As these individuals studied and practiced their craft, without the distractions of television, computers or books, they discovered the incredible healing power that each of us possesses. Shamans and enlightened ones discovered that certain places on and in the Earth held special powers, special energies that could be used to facilitate healing. They further discovered certain words, hand motions and hand positions on the body unlocked miraculous healing. The wise ones discovered that the mind held unlimited potential for manifesting anything the heart desired.

Unlike modern medicine that requires years of expensive academic study and licenses and testing, anyone can learn the techniques passed down for centuries from master teacher to apprentice. These are teachings that cannot be learned from books, as special energies are passed from the teacher to the student while the student is in the presence of the teacher. These techniques can be used by the student for self-healing or on others, and they are safe, passive, non-intrusive and fun!

Even modern medicine is beginning to understand the healing power of divine powers which were taken for granted by the ancient shamans. Prayer, meditation and consultation are now being taught as courses in medical schools all over the world. Even though modern medicine cannot explain the healing power of the divine, it recognizes there are powers that cannot be seen, heard, felt, smelled or touched, that heal miraculously. These forces cannot be measured on a machine and can be as effective as a pill.

The source of these healing methods is energy. The energy that surrounds, coexists, flows through and connects all of us. The ancient shamans could sense, see, feel, know this energy and through their trained psychic abilities they discovered methodologies for helping the sick and diseased people in their communities and tribes. They discovered that the mind is a powerful tool for harnessing this energy and that the secret to miraculous results is a powerful connection to the divine.

For centuries these teachings were kept secret for several reasons. Primarily, the teachings were only for those who were ready to learn them. Teachers required years of service and humility to properly prepare the student's mind and heart for the divine knowledge they were to learn. People who were self-centered, egotistical, and selfish, concerned only with their personal welfare were not ready for these teachings. Teachers were adamant that only the pure of heart should have this knowledge, for it was the pure heart that made the teachings effective. People who did not have the necessary preparation and foundation could not use the teachings and would accuse teachers of fraud and deception. Therefore the teachings were kept secret and taught only in "mystery schools" where the students would only be taught the sacred knowledge when they were ready.

In Europe and North America, many of these teachers were persecuted, either by established religions that were threatened by their talents and worship of nature, by governments who sought to control the practice of medicine, or by medical professions that wanted to limit the treatment of patients to members of their association. Oftentimes because the teachings were secret, "esoteric", or "mysterious", the teachers were accused of being witches or wizards in league with evil forces. In order to protect themselves and their teachings, these teachers went "underground" and kept their knowledge secret.

In other countries, training was long and arduous, and the teachings were not shared with the general population because the general population was not willing to prepare themselves for the work. Furthermore, the work was reserved for those who had special talents in the psychic realm, which could be sensed by the master teachers. As most people felt this process to be too demanding, they were perfectly willing to leave these arts to those who were dedicated to learning and perfecting their craft.

For today, many people are seeking alternative ways to heal themselves and others. Embracing a deeper, stronger, more vibrant connection to the divine in the universe, more and more people are reconnecting with ancient teachings. Not satisfied with waiting until disease strikes to seek medical help, people want to learn natural and simple ways to stay healthy, live longer and happier lives. This is the wisdom of the ancients, the knowledge that waits to be taught. People want to know how to avoid disease, to feel more alive, to eat healthy foods, to raise healthy children, and to live as long as genetically possible.

These ancient teachings do not replace modern medicine. It is important to seek medical help when necessary and appropriate. However, improving health and living longer is our human inheritance which can be realized by learning the ancient teachings as well as following the advice of medical professionals. The ancient cures of magical food such as chicken soup (in the US) or borscht (in Europe) and tender loving care can be just as effective as a pill. The ancient shamans knew that it was love and magic that healed the sick. This was the healing wisdom for all ages.

Why Do We Need Energy Medicine?

from energytherapy.net

When aligned and balanced, the aura is radiant energy, a living light. Because the aura serves the transformational agendas of the soul, it is constructed such that imbalance can be incorporated into the ego structure. Part of our life is to create blocks, which we use as stepping-stones. Our issues and concerns appear as blocks and distortions in the energy field. Physical and emotional trauma, self-judgment and limiting beliefs, or external psychic pressures from individuals, groups or institutional belief systems cause these blocks and distortions. Psychological and spiritual wounds condense, even into physical disease, to assist us to complete the soul's imperative to fulfill our nature. Although these patterns in the aura represent energy limitations, each one also holds a key to greater spiritual realization and strengthening. They are adversaries that become allies as we work to transform them.

Each dilemma is linked internally to a solution that awakens our holiness. Our beliefs, judgments, attitudes, and trauma affect the containment and movement of energy within our consciousness. Blocks are an attempt to protect. As such, they become integrated into the sustaining structure of our personality. As we create meaning in response to trauma, we adapt to the meaning as if it were normal. Thus, the trauma and the meaning we constructed in response become normalized into our psyche. We adapt to the level of our injury. While the ego adapts to trauma, the soul continues to pursue transformation. In the deepest sense, our aura is out of balance as one phase in a process caused by our drive to awaken spiritually and transform the quality of our lives and our experience. In a more conventional sense, any concern, trauma, or issue that brings one to counseling or requires therapy reflects in the aura as an imbalance.

Blocked Aura

Blocks and imbalances help us answer the age-old questions: Who am I? What am I? What do I want? The more energized and integrated the aura, the faster the process. Transformation and realization can be instantaneous. The aura wants to be in balance. As we grow wiser, we are more attentive to the care and maintenance of ourselves as energy. It is in our nature to seek new experience and then transform that experience into understanding, strength, and awareness. Blocks are a natural increment of human destiny. We are taught that we must do good in order to be good. In truth, we do good because we are good.

To have a perfectly balanced aura, one's development and attitudes on all three of these levels (physical, emotional, and mental-spiritual) must be in perfect attunement with the Infinite. For example, should a man become involved in an intense argument with another person leading to an exchange of physical blows, the disharmonies will show in both the mental and physical auras and the auric fields will be disrupted. The aura carries scars just as the physical body carries its scars. Emotionally and spiritually as the affected person strives for a better balance, the wounds become laced just as a physician will sew up a cut on the physical body. Consequently, as we live, grow, decide what is right and what is wrong, rationalize and compromise, our aura is in a constant state of flux. How the aura is transformed depends upon our ideas, attitudes, endeavors, and the state of consciousness in which we live. There is no doubt that our personality, soul condition, hidden self, and physical condition are revealed clearly through the vibrations and formation of the aura. A trained Noetic Field Therapist can tell the emotional and spiritual development of a person by the scars and lacings in the aura.

Integrated Energy Therapy

In today's busy world, stress and illness are commonplace and taken as an almost inevitable side effect of our frequently frantic lives. We strive to eat well, sleep more, relax and unwind but, at the same time, diagnoses of depression, food allergies and back problems are at an all-time high, suggesting our quest for health isn't going quite to plan. But what if you could heal yourself from within by experiencing a treatment claiming to remove blockages and promote wellness at a cellular level?

Developed in the 1980s by Stevan Thayer, Integrated Energy Therapy (IET) combines angelic energy with the meridians of the physical body to bring long-lasting relief from the discomfort of a variety of physical, mental and emotional ailments, including Crohn's disease, ME, depression, back problems and arthritis, to name but a few. Phenomenally successful in the United States, Belgium, Canada, and Ireland, it is now making its way to the UK mainland, thanks to the efforts of more than 24,000 beginners and practitioners worldwide. IET works on the premise that restricted energy flow results in increased risk of physical and mental illness, spiritual disconnection and a general feeling of being 'stuck'. Meridian energy can become restricted due to blockages caused by disease, suppressed feelings, stress, self-limiting thoughts, surgery, even past karma. During a treatment, IET practitioners connect with the 'universal energy' through their hands and use it to diagnose energy flow in the client. Then, using specific, gentle techniques, the practitioner supports the client whilst releasing profoundly limiting past energy patterns. This energy therapy can be used alone or to complement modern and holistic treatments, including massage and reiki, which, although similar to IET in its use of energy channelled through the hands, is said to work on a much lower vibrational level. As a result, IET is lighter and more subtle than reiki.
