English Bulldogs Health

English Bulldogs are generally a very healthy breed, but they do suffer from a few common problems. The English Bulldog is not recommended for novice pet owners because they do require a bit more care and attention than the average dog.

Here are some health tips to help you to detect any possible problems for your
English Bulldog:

1) Skin: healthy skin is supple and smooth. No scabs, cuts, growths, white
flakes or red patches. The color should be pale pink except where spotted ñ
spotting is normal. Regularly check the skin for fleas, ticks, or other
parasites. You can do this by rubbing the hair backwards and checking the
actual skin.

2) Coat: a healthy coat is shiny and flexible, does not have dandruff, bald
spots or is very oily.

3) Eyes: clear, bright shiny eyes with a normal amount of clear mucus and
discharge. The whites of their eyes must not be yellow and the pink lining of
the eyelids should not be swollen or have a yellow discharge.

4) Ears: the inside skin should be pink and clean with a minimal amount of
yellow/brown wax. Any scratching or redness is a sign of problems.

5) Nose: a cool, moist nose being black, pink or self-colored with clear nasal
discharge is optimal for a healthy dog.

6) Mouth, teeth and gums: the breath should smell good, the teeth should be
white and the gums pink or black (depending upon the dogís coloring). Foul
smelling breath, inflamed gums, or crusted teeth are all potential problems
and could indicate a health concern. Brushing your dogís teeth is an
important part of health care, just like brushing your own.

brown and firm and have no worms. Dogs usually have one or two stools a day
