Bulldogs are Tops! (We knew it all along!)
Bulldog Breed Returns to the AKC Top 10 List
(AP) - For the first time in 72 years, the bulldog has muscled its way back into the Top 10 most popular breeds in the nation.The top dog for the 17th consecutive year was the Labrador retriever, the American Kennel Club said Wednesday. The bulldog was selected 10th in a survey of the 50 largest cities in 2007.
"The bulldog is both docile and adaptive and can thrive in small or large homes," the AKC said. "It's an excellent all-around family pet."
The thickset canine, with its low-swung body, sagging snout and wide shoulders, last made the Top 10 list in 1935, when it placed 10th. With the ascent of the bulldog, the miniature Schnauzer dropped off the list.
The beagle, the only breed that has been consistently included on the Top 10 since 1915, came in fifth.
Other purebreds that made the most popular dogs list were the Yorkshire terrier at No. 2, followed by the German shepherd, golden retriever, the boxer at No. 6, dachshund, poodle and Shih Tzu.
The AKC maintains the largest registry of purebred dogs in the world and sets the standards for 157 breeds.

Is a Bulldog the Right Breed for Me?
It's very important to choose the right breed of dog for your family.
Pets are important parts of our lives, so before you add a dog to your family, make sure that you choose a breed that will "fit" your family.Bulldogs are intelligent and very loving. They love to play and they love children. They're low to the ground but adults are heavy, in the 50 pound range. Their coats are short, straight, and flat and shed an average amount.
They love to play, but they also love to sleep and don't require a lot of exercise. They snore and they may pass gas. Bulldogs are generally indoor dogs and tend to be sensitive to temperature extremes.
Before you choose a bulldog puppy, or any breed of puppy, make sure you do some research to make sure that you end up with a dog that is the perfect fit for you. This article from the American Kennel Club gives some good advice about what to consider when deciding on a breed, and this page describes in detail the bulldog breed standard.

Feeding Your Bulldog Puppy
These are the foods that we use and recommend.
You will want to feed a good puppy food four times a day until he is three months of age. From three to six months of age feed three times a day. From six to twelve months of age feed two times a day. Switch your Bulldog to adult dog food at 12 months of age. Continue to feed twice a day. Follow the amount recommended on the bag of food and adjust it to your feeding schedule. Always have plenty of water available for your Bulldog all the time.Feed puppy food that is all natural. Do Not Feed Soy! Some Bulldogs are allergic to soy. When soy filler is mixed with water it will expand and can cause gastric tortion that may be fatal to your Bulldog.

How do I Housebreak My New Bulldog Puppy?
Our tips for housebreaking your dog
Select a specific site outside in your yard you have already designated as his. He'll soon associate it with bathroom breaks. Visit it often. It's best to take your new dog outside about every two hours, as well as upon waking, after playing and feeding and before going to bed. In addition, be alert to signals like sniffing and circling that may indicate he has to go.
For his new home, your new puppy will need a place he can call his own. You may want to purchase a crate. The crate will be used to housebreak your Bullie, a safe place for your puppy when you are away, and a place for your puppy to sleep. As soon as your puppy is let out of its crate, take it outside and do not allow it to come back in until it goes. (A little praise goes a long way.) Most all dogs will not soil where they sleep if they are let out often enough.
If you don't want a crate for your new puppy, a nice doggie bed will do just fine as long as you are still able to confine your puppy. Correct him kindly. Accidents will happen. Remember that shouting, scolding and punishment serve no purpose and will only confuse your dog. Even if you catch him in mid-act, simply say "No!" and immediately take him outside. Praise him.
Lavish praise on your dog each time he goes outside in his assigned spot. Speak in an upbeat voice, smile and reward him with treats after he does his business.

Crates and Doggie Beds
Crates are great for training your dog and to provide a safe place for him while you're away from the house. Here are some recommended wire and hard-sided crates, and a soft-sided portable crate. - Oh me! I don't know how I missed this one. We love Bulldogs and used to breed them, too. In fact we have had 4 adult dogs at one time and lots of puppies. Now, we only have one female who is 10 years old, Miss PittyPat. She is pretty set in her ways and is spoiled rotten.

- Hi fellow Bulldog lover! For sure, you would certainly agree that Bulldogs are the best breeds in the world! I should know that because I have my own, too, and I even named it Matilda after the bulldog of the British Bulldogs of wrestling fame (R.I.P. Davey Boy...) They are fun to watch! I really love how their faces were created! I even took pictures of Matilda and put them on my personalized Bulldog checks that I've ordered online! You should check it out and I'm sure you will love it, too! thanks for sharing this 5-star lens of yours!

- This lens provided information about bulldog puppies. When that sweet little puppy face is staring at you, begging you to take it home, it's easy for rational thought to go out the window. The moment you're being bombarded with wet kisses, you're probably not thinking about all the time and energy, not to mention the cost of owning a dog.
