Our Friend the Bull Terrier
There are so many extra things you need to know if you own or are soon to own a English Bull Terrier. They are in a class of their own with their huge personalities and some almost undoglike behaviours. But if you persevere and are gentle and kind with your Bully your companion will reward you with undying love for a lifetime.

Bull Terrier Behaviour
On the negative side I have seen the jealous streak in a Bull Terrier when it comes to other dogs. Although you can keep bull terriers with other dogs be aware and read up on bull terrier behaviour so you know how to train and socialise your bully. It would be sad to fall in love with your bull terrier only to have it destroyed for being uncontrollable, but this is the same as with most dogs. There is a stigma around bull terriers that they are violent and responsible bull terrier owners are working to squash this stigma by owning, and managing a well cared for, well trained bull terrier. They aren't for the faint hearted as their personalities are quite strong, and your bully will soon be telling you what to do given half a chance. This isn't what you want as a bull terrier in charge can be the cause of many social problems. On the other hand they don't respond well to being hit and a firm, kind home is the only one for a bull terrier. They will reward you with years of loyalty, love and devotion.

History of the Bull Terrier
Bull Terrier is an ancient breed, dating back to the earliest times of the terrier. The purebred white bull terrier is from an early cross between the Bulldog and the Terrier and was first known as the Bull and Terrier. This combination combined the brains of the terrier with the brawn of the Bulldog. The Bull and Terrier was then crossed with the White English Terrier. There is some debate as to why the dogs were bred but it seems to either be for fighting, for ratting, or as a gentlemen's protection dog. Either way the Bull Terrier has always been seen as a formidable breed.

RIP Snoopy (Dogperson) Hickman, will be greatly missed!!
The dog featured in the first photo on this page in his youth has sadly been laid to rest age 14 years. He will be greatly missed. He was more than a dog, and most people understood he communicated in the most human ways!! He was a campaigner for peace, and hated fighting amoungst humans. He loved to be a human part of the family. We know you didn't want to leave us Snoop. We'll see you upstairs, until then rest well brother.
