Who Was Enid Blyton?

To most Americans she is unknown, since her books really didn't make it across the Atlantic Ocean, but to use children growing up in England in the 1950's, 1960's and even the 1970's, she was our world.

Enid wrote a phenominal number of books, from the Noddy stories for younger children, to the better known Secret Seven series for those a little older, and her best know works, The Famous Five and the Adventure Series.

Her books were to us in England the equivalent of The Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew in the USA, and every one was full of what us boys and girls wanted - spooky places, secret passages, smugglers, kidnappings, strange goings on, and once you started reading it was impossible to stop.

23rd May 2008 - This lens is under construction. It has been published in outline, due to it's forming part of a group of lenses themed on the South Of England, which is where the author wrote many of here books.

Will be great to see how this turns out. I was not a fan but one of my girls read lots of the Famous Five books a couple of years ago.

I still enjoy children's books. (Of course they also have the added advantage of being quick to read) I'll come back later to learn more.

Poddys, the Enid Blyton books did make it across the Atlantic to Canada. Our parents read them to us, later we received them as gifts, and they were and still are available in the public libraries here. I kept all of my Enid Blyton books and passed them along to my children. Enid Blyton books were translated into French, and German (maybe even more languages). Enid Blyton books seem to still be reprinted and in circulation, read by many children in the U.K., Europe, and Canada. Surely these books are available in the U.S. Thank you for the memories this brings. I look forward to your additions to this lens. I faved it and 5*

I, like Jaguar Julie, am randomly checking out your lenses--this is my 4th under construction. Boy did you bait us into this one. I was prepared to make wonderfully encouraging comments. I see your first visitor here was in June. Could I sell tickets and let folks bet on which lens will be completed first. I forgot, I'm a stranger to you, I'm Tipi's sister--she speaks well of you, so I guess somewhere along the way she did find a completed lens of yours. She is tenascious! Best of luck to you in your pursuits! I have to admire your good intentions!

Hmmm, Tony has been a naughty boy -- yet another lens that I picked at random and it is under construction? Sweetie -- you must finish what you start. ;)

I promise to complete this lens soon. Enid was my favourite author growing up, and the adventures of her creations kept my head full of fantasies for years. I wish the same for so many more children of present and future generations.

I'm looking forward to you finishing this lens as I absolutely adored Enid Blyton when I was younger, one of my nieces also loves her but my daughter's not really that into her books unfortunately. After reading her circus books I wanted to join one and after Malory towers I wanted to go to boarding school!
