Ranked #6,537 in Travel & Places, #179,593 overall
There are a lot of ways to enjoy Ormoc.
It may seem strange why I try to make it sound so enjoyable because it is.
For those who are satisfied with peaceful and quiet life, Ormoc is pleasurable and is the right place to go. It is a destination you won't have to regret about...

Where is Ormoc?
Ormoc is a city located in the heart of Leyte province in the country Philippines. It is a chartered city or the first non-provincial city of the Philippines. The city's name is derived from "ogmok", an old Visayan term for lowland or depressed plain. It has a population of 177,524 people. Ormoc is the economic, cultural, commercial and transportation hub of western Leyte. The exact location!
What's in Ormoc?
Exactly, what is in Ormoc that I am really promoting it and loving it that I dare to spread the word about it?For how many years already, like more than 28 years, i've been here and I never get tired of being here and watching Ormoc as it grows.
I've seen it rose since the days when the tragedy happened, here is my story of the Ormoc tragedy, and still growing today.
It may be that Ormoc City is really not urbanized but still, you may find something to like in here... Its the peace and tranquility that you get from Ormoc that makes you go back for more. I would always love to go back and stay in Ormoc and crave for more!
My list are few. But if you really come here, you'll see that it has more to offer than what is seen through pictures...
1. The Ormoc Bay
It is just an ordinary bay coz when sunset comes it, it's when the life goes out of Ormoc. People from all walks of life stroll around to have fresh air (yes! still fresh!) and just mingle around with other people or with the family eating popcorn or the famous "isaw" and barbecue in Ormoc.Filipinos love food and they love it even more when shared with the family. They come here to dine with them and just wasting time with the family!!!
2. The Lake Danao
Not only is it the source of energy for the people in Ormoc and other parts of the country but it is also main attraction in Ormoc.People have claim that it is the deepest lake, or that it has never been dived on and more, even stories of great monsters living in it. But "Ormocanons" (People living in Ormoc) still loves to go there, take pictures and swim in the cold water.
It has not been developed and therefore it is untouched. But mother nature itself has its ways of capturing the hearts of the people through is beauty.
Journey to Ormoc's Lake Danao
3. The Ormoc Superdome
The Ormoc's version of the Araneta in Manila. It does not actually entices people when seen upfront but when celebrities and activites with great action are in it, people are there even when the only way to breath is through their hands.
It even looks more beautiful at night...
It was built years ago and it has served its purpose until now.
4. The Ormoc Pineapple
People from around the country would never leave Ormoc without buying bundles and bundles of Pineapples since Pineapples from Ormoc are sweet to the very last drop even the core can totally be eaten. Nothing left but the skin which of course cannot be.Pineapples from Ormoc should not be missed by tourist and other people alike.
Try this pineapple product
5. Ormoc's Old Church
Aside from its antique setting, this is the most wonderful place to go when you arrive new to a place., to visit a church an be blessed on the way home or to a trip. The St. Peter and Paul Parish Church is one of the oldest churches here in Ormoc. It has witnessed historic events and withstood the past. Now, it stand its pride at the heart of Ormoc City.
You would never want to miss out a historic church.

6. The Ormoc "Tugob" Pineapple Festival
As a thanksgiving to its abundance of producing pineapples, Ormoc celebrates Pineapple Festival every October 22 of the year. In Ormoc this festivity is called Tugob Festival. This celebration is still a baby, on the first try, it was a success, so the officials decided to do it every year.
Watch for Tugob Festival in Ormoc here
7. Ormoc Mass Grave
It is scary right? But think about the Ormoc Tragedy which happened years ago, I was actually still 8 years old then, read my story during the Ormoc tragedy. This grave was dedicated to more than 8,000 lives who were taken by that happening. This surely is historical place as this is one of the memorabilias for Ormoc's history.
My father was actually one of those who counted the bodies. I always pray for their peace and thank God I am still living.
8. Ormoc's Geothermal Plant
Ormoc has the largest source of geothermal energy supplying electricity to the neighbouring islands like Cebu. It give power supply to thousands of households in these places.PNOC is a place to go to if you are interested to know more about this geothermal plant.

Other things to do
9. Ormoc's sweet water
Let's refrsh ourselves here after talking about graves.Ormoc is known to have sweet water. Nothing can compare. Tasting water from any other place feels like the water has to be cleaned many times, but with Ormoc's water, it taste like it has been cleaned and sweetened all in one. Ask any ormocanon and they will surel;y direct you to this fountain of water with abundant supply of this sweet water.
In Omoc, this place is called "Agua Dulce" spanish for sweet water.
Ormoc actually has a lot of these flowing waters around, like my father said it is because of Ormoc location, I cannot tell the difference though but visit Ormoc and people will tell which places has these flowing waters in them.
10. The Ormocanons
Yes, the people.. The Ormocanons!!...Aside from the place, you would really love to be in Ormoc because of the friendly and very hospitable poeple. Ormoc is just a small place and people around know everyone and gives everyone a smile...
In spite of what happened 20 years ago, just like my story, peope in Ormoc continue on with life to grow and move on. Now, I can say that Ormocanons are alive and kicking after all that.
Touching isn't it?
This is how Ormoc Looks like now...
