Enrico Caruso at a Glance
Enrico Caruso (born Errico Caruso; February 25 1873 - August 2 1921) was an Italian opera singer and one of the greatest tenors in history. Caruso was also the most popular singer in any genre in the first two decades of the 20th Century and one of the most important pioneers of recorded music. Caruso's popular recordings and his extraordinary voice, known for its mature power, beauty and unequalled richness of tone, made him perhaps the best-known operatic star of his era. Such was his influence on singing style, virtually all subsequent Italianate tenors (and many non-Italian tenors) have be...

On the Art of Singing
Non-technical advice to aspiring singers from 2 of the greatest singers. Focuses on the care and training of the voice, tone emission and attack, voice faults, more.
I liked hearing from Tetrazzini herself how she achieved such a wonderful sound, what her "secrets" were. This book was a very nice change from the usual technical material. I thought the personal information and insights were interesting. I'm even re-reading it now with my highlighter, just to make sure I get every thing I can out of it. -- AMBE (TEXAS)
This book contains some excellent points and vocal tips given by two great singers of their time. One must however disregard much of the negativity and arrogance with which the book was written - there is no "foolproof" method for singing and each person must unlock their individual potential. It is true, however, that essentially, one must sing naturally and comfortably, as this book emphasizes. -- A reader

Caruso's Method of Voice Production
Scientific, physiological basis of great tenor's phenomenal voice. Diagrams, instructions, exercises. Includes 38 illustrations.
What Marafioti discusses, with complete support and input from Caruso himself as citations from his many letters proves, is the simplest, easiest and most sensible vocal method out there. Moreover, it makes perfect sense to even a non-singer. Don't force. Measure the breath with the diaphragm, this being the support that so many singers today couldn't even begin to define. OPEN YOUR MOUTH. WHY is that not taught across the board?? I would challenge any reviewer who wants to attack this superb and hugely important work to actually say what they find wrong with the technique set forth by the author, rather than just some ad hominem nonsense that doesn't help anyone. Also, they should be a classical singer, which the one negative reviewer is not. There is no reason why there can't be some fundamental rules for teaching voice, despite the ridiculous claims that no one technique is better than the other. PLEASE read this book if you are interesting in the study of voice, as it may well be the only work on subject you'll ever need. Read it BEFORE finding a voice teacher, so you can better know what to look for in a teacher and how to select one. As Marafioti points out, there are many, many charlatans out there, ruining classical singing. With the knowledge gained from this book, you should be able to avoid them and find one who truly can help you develop your voice to its fullest potential. -- David K. Goldstein (NY, NY USA)
