Enterprise Start Up: Where is the Aladdin Lamp?

Starting a Winning Enterprise

T he perfect lens! The top magic lens idea! The killer app! The web that will bring millions of traffic. Some of you have started a successful enterprise. I can see flowski smile. Your lens is at the top of the squidoo enterprise.

The frog to prince fairy dust unfortunately does not reach everyone! How many wanna-be entrepreneurs and businesses spend millions just to get a hold of a service or product that will earn them millions if not gazillions of dollars? Am still wishing Aladdin's lamp will appear in front of me so I can make my wishes to the genie. Some get lucky, but for most, a lot of hard work and digging is required.

We all have tried and we all have our style of doing this. Some of us are like the beloved of cartoons mad scientist who dithers and twitters about in the garage until the lightening bolt strikes. Only, we do this in front of our computer. Others dig to find a need and work backwards to build a solution. Me? I am just thinking about it and these are what I will share with you.

Find a Niche where you can reign

Start your enterprise in a niche not served as yet

Be very specific of the area where you can be a major success

B e VERY specific about the need for your service or product. Define that need and niche precisely. What is the gap you are filling? How big is it? Who will benefit and by how much with the solution you are crafting?

Your enterprise start up will be easier if you have a road map. If you don't, you may get somewhere, but probably not where you want to go! Or you may get nowhere at all.

Find the Golden Egg

Keep digging in the niche you have chosen

Stop when you find the golden egg

Keep digging until you find the golden egg. It will happen. Remember the variable time windshield wiper control in the movies? Look at what you know well. Services or products you would like but can't find, multi-step activities that can be simplified, work environment changes that make folks more productive, ugly objects that can be attractive, or complex equipment that can be doofus-proofed. There are countless things to look into. Start at what grabs your attention.

This book is worth reading especially as it included a special chapter on connecting to the net for profit. It also empahasized the need for a marketing plan and for me, this is key. Unless you know your market well, start not. The emphasis on what works is also more informative.

Your Competitive Advantage

Why would customers choose you or your product?

What value can they find in you or your product?

L ist your unique attributes and competitive advantage. What about your products and services? What distinguish them from the others offered in the market? Why would anyone buy from you rather than the competition?

You are right! Without a business plan we cannot succeed. We must study very well everything before acting; otherwise we will unavoidably make costly mistakes. Happy New Year!
