The Global View - Carbon Footprints, Fuel Efficiencies, Conservation

Only recently (about the past 10,000 years or so) have humans used solar energy in the form of "carbon-foot-print" in the form of that all-power power called "fire". This is a good start to the story--but it's most likely really, really wrong. Because all living things--including humans--are carbon-based life-forms. The fact of being born to a living organism and that we consume food that is also carbon-based means that we are part of the "carbon-foot-print" even before the use of fuel (fossil-fuel or otherwise) comes into the picture. Of course, this also means that all the bunnies, squirrels, deer, polar bears, and penguins of the world are also part of the "carbon-foot-print". So, now that we've got all this craziness out of the way, let's get on track to talk about the current crisis effecting us (and something we can do something about)(and, no, it isn't "global-warming" either). Read on for more information that may be more useful for you!

Energy Links! The Alternate Views!

Alternate Fuel and Fuel-Efficient Vehicles
This Squidoo lens provides information, links, and video clips of alternatives to those contraptions that guzzle fossil fuels. If a vehicle must use fossile fuels, at least it should do it sparingly, right? Check this lens out for more information.
Solar Electricity - Solar Power through Photovoltaics!
Photovoltaic panels provide a way to capture the energy of the sun to move electrons and thus create electricity. After a certain point after the first investment of time and setup costs, from then on the energy is going from you to the power company rather than the other way around! Check out this lens for more information.
Energy Independence!
It's time to kick the oil habit (if you aren't sure of this, have you seen the prices at the local gas station recently?). This Squidoo lens provides links, commentary, and video clips about alternate energy sources and how you can break away from the grid and the stranglehold that "big oil" has on you! Check out this lens for more information!
Windpower! Another way to capture the sun's energy!
Wind energy originally came from the sun -- sort of indirectly, but still, it's from the sun. The sun heats the earth's surface, which causes the air to rise, which creates currents, which eventually causes the earth's winds that are supplemented by the jetstreams that are caused by the earth's rotation. Might as well capture this power that abounds and which is "renewable"! Check out this lens for more information!
Solar Heating for Home, Water, and Cooking!
If you've ever sat on the vinyl or leather seats of your car after it has been parked in a nice sunny parking lot, you KNOW that an enclosed space surrounded by windows can collect heat. Well, why not put the sun's energy and that heat to work?! This Squidoo lens provides resources, links, video clips, accessories, and other information for solar heating--whether it's for your home, your water (swimming pool?), or your vittles! Check it out--and be sure to rate it or leave a note!
Solar Max Advantage Blog (Just Started)
This is a blog I've created to post resources and information I've learned while searching for alternatives for fossil fuel and for trying to reduce power and fuel costs. It's just started, so there's not much meat there yet. Drop by and visit, however. I'll be adding more stuff to it as I find the good stuff!

Solar Energy, Alternate Energy in the News!

Well... it's a good start. Yes, there is much, much, more to do. And we have to see through much of the smoke screen that the "spin-artists" put on the "positive publicity" about being "green"... however, again, as more and more examples pop up out there, other companies, organizations, and individuals will be inspired to do something also. That may be the benefit of every attempt to improve on energy efficiency and environmental conservation--the additional use of renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources!
Sun Chips Uses California Sun!
Here's an example of how businesses and other organizations can take advantage of the natural renewable resources available to them to create energy-efficient and cost-saving operations! Sun Chips... using solar energy to provide heating for their power source -- great job!
Este Lauder Lets the Sun In!
In Oakland, New Jersey (!) Este Lauder will reduce 25 years carbon dioxide emissions of over 10,000 tons, while producing 650,000 kilowatt-hours (kwh) each year. Another great example of a company reducing their energy costs while also reducing their environmental impact.

You Have to Invest in Education--and Most Likely, Your School or College Isn't Teaching These Concepts!

Electric-generating windmills on the Altamont Pass, CaliforniaI have been collecting solar and alternate energy references and resources for the past 30 years. It started when I was in high school and got interested in other ways to create heat and light (mostly for the power outages during the aftermath of typhoons) when we lived on Guam.

I've recently discovered an interesting resource that you can see when you click here. Lots of ideas for ways you can build your own alternate energy sources for your home or small business.

And here are two more:

Renewable Energy Solutions--The Manual--The folks who put this together have been presented on TV, Google, and the New York Times as a source of Alternate Energy Information. Good stuff for those in need of Alternate Energy!
