Green's History is Ancient
Being green has an ancient history millenniums old

This article was written by me and originally appeared on another website. I'm providing a link that shows how ancient civilizations recycled, reused and reduced WAY before we did. Click here to learn about millennium old recycling.

Recycled Bottles Get New Use
From bottles to eco chic bags
Many people claim to have a green bag either reusable or recycled, but don't deliver. Some people may already know that Kroger supermarkets, Martin's (formerly Ukrops) and Trader Joe's all had lead in their bags, and although they had less PPM's (part per million) than the cap that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) allows, they did still have some lead. The companies that faired worse were Walmart, Winn Dixie and "Publix", which were high in lead. This is not new and was on the news, but what is new is a product that I stumbled on by accident.
The company I found adheres to California's Proposition 65 for the TiPPA Act passed in 2006, also known as Toxics in Packaging Prevention Act. Although they have reusable shopping bags, they also have a whole line of other recycled bags, much of which is made with recycled bottles. Additionally, there are 18 other member states who have passed the act and information on that is seen here at the Toxics in Packaging Clearinghouse.
If you need something tough and dirt resistant try their shopping bags with lamination, which I probably would use for the beach just because of the dirt resistant factor. It is made from 80% recycled plastic bottles. You can even customize it with the shape, trim and some other features. Or if you prefer the look and feel of cotton, they have 100% recycled shopping bags, which is 90% recycled cotton with 10% made from recycled plastic bottles. Photo credit: photobucket share siteTheir foldable lunch bags/ boxes for kids are leak proof with an easy to clean lining. They also have insulated bags that are great for that outdoor picnic or for keeping your cold items cold on the way home from the market. The outside of the kids lunch bags are made from 100% recycled fabric, with the inside being 50% recycled insulation obtained from recycling production waste, which is something we throw away anyhow. Their insulated bags have an outer fabric made from 100% recycled plastic, with the inside having 50% recycled closed cell foam insulation from material obtained from recycling production waste.
What I really love though is their recycled bags that are 100% recycled PET bags, which stands for Polyethylene terephthalate, known for containing carbonated beverages and the like that were in plastic bottles. It has a soft cloth texture, so you won't even know it came from recycled plastic. Using post consumer waste for the good is really using your head. Use your waste to reduce waste! On a related note, see how using the waste of almonds can be used productively and responsibly in the article below. You can watch their video using Real Player OR I've enclosed a link with text for these really cool recycled eco chic bags.

Almond Waste Reduces Carbon
Almond waste's many uses to reduce carbon

Here is an article I wrote showing how the waste from almonds, i.e. the shells, hull and peel can be used for the environment instead of disguarding the waste. Almond waste and almond co-products can be used for metal ion removal, phenol removal, pollutant removal, horticulture, agriculture, farming and livestock bedding. See here for the
many uses of almond waste for reducing carbon.Article I wrote that originally appeared on another website.

Your Opinion Counts - Green Energy
Let your voice be heard in this friendly debate
See my 1st comment below which sums up the discussion.

Should it become mandatory that all countries adhere to green energy?

Yes, explain
madoc says:
Yes, in so fair as you can get other countries to do what you want. Certain,ly US states should only be getting federal dollars for e.g. highway support, if they are actiely implementing green energy policies
sousababy says:
Absolutely, at the rate of consumption right now we use up the equivalent of 1-1/2 earths. In other words . . we need to globally scale back our usage and adopt green energy methods or else we will not be able to replenish our earth's supply!
gypsyman27 says:
We have caused tremendous damage to our eco-system and we should try to repair the problem. I cover this at length on "Renewable Energy Sources". I am almost rabid on this subject.:~) See you around the galaxy...
crosscreations says:
While I am not fond of mandates, there's no logical reason NOT to transition to green energy. Seems that green energy is slow in developing mainly due to lobbying from the corporations and people who benefit from our dependence on fossil fuels. Nothing logical about that, just greed.
GetFactsnotHype says:
New Comment: I would like to think green energy could safely secure its credibility, while avoiding the pitfalls of becomming solely concerned with economic growth and profit like their consumer driven counterparts if it was to become mandatory.
Knowitall says:
Green energy companies cannot succeed unless investors believe that they can earn a return on investment equal to or greater than they can earn on regular energy companies of similar risk. Moreover, if the technology is new--which green often is--the return on investment demanded by prospective investors must ordinarily be higher than what they demand for regular companies. This is because the market for green energy is often unproven. The higher the risk, the higher the return on investment demanded by investors BEFORE they will invest in that company. This is a major reason why it is important for Congress to provide tax breaks and incentives to encourage people invest in green companies--if that is a desirable course of action from an environmental and societal perspective. Those tax breaks are often needed to make investing in green companies economically justified when considered in the light of the alternatives. Tax breaks are thus often crucial in order to allow green companies to raise the capital they need to compete againt non-green companies. .
GetFactsnotHype says:
I read an article about Vesta, a wind turbine company in the U.K. that closed the doors there just about the same time that they were being sued for exposing workers to highly toxic epoxy resins.
No, and here's why.
Don_McCyclist says:
Mother nature already mandates! If we don't clean up our act, we may as a species find ourselves swept out by a doting but disappointed mother planet, taking many more species and biological communities with us.
cdevries says:
I'm wary of Mandatory, I think it's better strategy to use market forces instead. What might really encourage green energy most might be to add taxes to "dirty" energy sources, then use that tax money toward "clean/green" research.

- Extremely well presented. I did not know that the shells, hull and peel from almonds reduces carbon. I am glad to see that Gypsyman27 has visited you previously - you both have written excellent and timely articles. We need action and we are at a crossroads right now . . it is scary to think that corporations are corrupt enough to pay off people. But then again, I've concluded (in other fields, even healthcare) this: when money means more than lives is when bad things happen. Shame on the human condition . . and those in a position who choose to 'look the other way and take the bribe.'

- You had me when you said 'Green Solutions', because that's what we need. There are actually companies that pay money to different interests so that they may go on polluting and destroying our environment. Not to sound like a broken record, but you can read about it at "Renewable Energy Sources". Rose has the link on her lens where she has listed us both as Lensmasters with good hearts. Check out the information I include on my lens on the Koch Corporation, they are really bad guys. Very well done, great work. Stay well and happy. See you around the galaxy...
