4 Useful enV Touch Hacks

Not so much a hack but a form of utility, anyone who is blind in the dark would benefit from this. I found this tip from user CDNorton on enVtouch.org. He writes:

1. Start the camera then select 'Video'.

2. Set the flash to 'on'.

3. Then on the settings (the gear symbol) set the recording time to 'for save'. ('For send' limits it to 1 minute.)

4. Press 'record'. The light will stay on until you run out of memory or battery. When done erase the recording."

It's great if you've managed to get yourself locked in a basement without a working light source (I don't speak from experience). Also, who HASN'T fumbled around at night looking for some form of keyhole, whether it be for the car or the house?

In retrospect; no flashlight? Use your touch!

Requirements:
Bitpim (v1.0.7) which is the unstable release www.bitpim.org
*Update* apparantly bitpim v1.0.6 official works as well
Phone and USB cable
Data Plan Recommended for using VZ Navigator

1. Download VZ Navigator make sure it's the full version for 9.99/month (i wasn't charged for it since it was removed within hours of downloading it, but i make no promises here)(this also works with other subscription apps), and make sure its up to date by running it once or twice) Then make sure to Install BitPim, plug in phone and let it load the drivers if you haven't done so.

2. Start Bitpim, it will likely recognize the phone as 'Other CDMA phone on COM3'. (com port # may vary)

3. Click Edit in Bitpim, and then Settings. Change Phone Type to LG-VX10000 (Voyager) and then click ok. The bottom of bitpim should show it as the voyager with a yellow circle.

4. Click View in Bitpim, then View Filesystem.

5. Click the Plus next to the folder. It will take a minute for it to propogate the data. Then Find the folder called 'brew' and right click it. You should see an option to Backup Entire Tree (don't do as I did and click Backup Directory..it will not work. This part will take a long time. I didn't time it, but 10-15 minutes or so. You can see the progress at the bottom of bitpim. Once it's gone through it's entire process you may save it to wherever you'd like. Just remember where.

6. Disconnect your phone. Go to Menu, Media Center, Browse and Download and remove the application from the phone(cancel subscription). Then power the phone down and back on.

7. Bitpim should still be up and active, so plug the phone back in and again click the plus next to the folder to let it propogate.

8. Right Click on the 'brew' folder and choose Restore... Select the .zip file you saved and when the window pops up to select the files to restore click ok. Again this part takes a while. But once it is complete you are nearly done.

9. Disconnect the phone, reboot the phone and you should be all set. Note* VZ Navigator will re-update itself, this is normal.

iPhone Custom theme and instruction by y2kss66:

Download the iPhone custom theme here

1. Make sure you have the latest version of BitPim

2. Manually set your enV Touch to the Voyager profile in BitPim

3. Browse to this location in the file system: /flash/ui/menu/

4. In there, there will be a file named "topSclassType1Sub.swf"*

5. Right click on the file name and click "Overwrite"

6. Browse to one of the themes included in this archive with the same name

7. Click on the file and then click OK

8. It will then replace the file

9. Restart the phone right after and make sure you have the theme set to Blue Inspiration.

10. Voila! Now when you click on the menu icon you will see your new theme.

Here are the steps to complete this hack. If you wish, you can also view the hack in video format below in the YouTube links. Credit goes to rosserm for posting this on envtouch.org:

1. Open your enV touch and dial ##program11000 (##776472611000) and hit send.

2. When prompted for a service code just type six zeros. (000000)

3. Once in the menu, choose 4, then 1, then 8, then 4. This should be the MIP DUN NAI menu.

4. You will see 5555555555@dun.vzw3g.com (5555555555 being your phone number). Simply delete the dun. so that all you are left with is 5555555555@vzw3g.com Save this and return to the home screen.

5. Connect your phone to your computer via USB. Allow the computer to install all necessary drivers. Once ready to use, go to Start/Network/Network and Sharing Center. Once there, click "set up a connection or network".

6. Click "set up a dial-up connection". If it gives you the option of choosing which port, hit LGE USB. When prompted for the ISP info enter this:

Dial-up number: #777
User name: 5555555555@vzw3g.com
Password: vzw
Choose remember this password and rename your connection if you wish.
Click connect.

7. Allow it to verify information and all other processes until it shows that you are connected to the internet. Save the connection if you wish.

Thanks to user rosserm for this amazing hack. You need to have an unlimited data plan, whether it be through the connect data plan or with the VCast Vpak. Do not attempt to use this with high bandwidth applications such as gaming or uploading/downloading torrents. It's basically meant for users who wish to surf the net from the comfort of their laptop when there is no WiFi available.
