What is an Epoxy Garage Floor and Why Should I Get One?

Epoxy Garage Floors - the Newest Tool for Making Your House Look Amazing.

What is an epoxy garage floor? Many people ask that question, particularly after seeing the finished product in someone else's home. An epoxy garage floor is a concrete floor, very much like any garage floor you might find in a normal house, except that it has been covered with an epoxy based sealant, a bunch of flakes, and a final clear coat. The end result looks much like granite or marble, is extremely resistant to heat and wear and tear, is easy to clean, and makes anything in your garage look like a million bucks.

If you are wondering whether or not you should get an epoxy garage floor, you should ask yourself several questions. Are you trying to make your house a home? Are you interested in home improvement projects that can significantly increase the value of your home? Do you appreciate a good product that is both performance based and aesthetically pleasing to the eye? Are you going to design your own house, and want the best for it?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then epoxy floor paint is for you. When complete, the floor is guaranteed to wow your neighbors and treat your cars great.

The process of putting the floor down is very easy (although a professional should do it to make sure it is done correctly) and can be completed in a day. First, a penetrative primer is put down over the concrete to seal it up, prevent any cracks, and ensure a solid bond with the epoxy agent. It dries fairly quickly, and when dry, a body coar is applied (of the color of your choosing) and the flakes that give it the granite or marble feel are applied. Once dry, anye excess flakes are removed and a final coat of polyurea is applied to fully seal the floor. The final application dries in two to three hours and by the next day you can park your car on it.

A company I have seen do this before that does a great job is Kyle Holland Construction out of Wichita, Kansas. They are great people, do great work, produce a great result, and can provide an epoxy floor at a reasonable cost. Finding someone like this in your area with the expertise to get it right the first time is very important.

And for all you home improvement buffs out there, putting this down will not only get you your money back at resale but might be the very thing that puts your house over a competing one and gets it sold first! To see these in person is really pretty amazing, even if it is just a garage floor.

Good luck with your home, making your house a home, and finding someone like Kyle Holland Construction to help you on your way.
