Epson CD Tray

Recently I bought an Epson R340 printer to print CDs and Photos. After printing out nearly 200 CDs the printer stopped wanting to print them by jamming the CD tray. After a bit of investigation I found out that these printers do have problems with their print trays and that the print trays only work for about 150 CDs before you start having problems with them. The print rollers get dirty and the guides on the tray get stained and less clear.

After reading up on this you have three options, those being:

  • Update your printer drivers (doesn't always work but its worth a try)
  • Clean your printer rollers and the CD tray
  • if all else fails replace the CD tray

Old Style Epson R200 - R340 CD Tray Fix

It seems like the early R200 - R340 CD tray has a plastic flange on the front of it that is a cause of most of the jamming. After a while this plastic flange will bend and fray, there are two solutions to fix this.

  • Put some tyvek/scotch tape over it. Tyvek works better.
  • Tear the plastic flange off completely

Yet another fix

The underside of the tray can get very shiny causing the rollers to not grab the tray probably. Grab yourself some medium grade sandpaper and lightly sand off the shinyness.

If it still doesn't work the last solution is to buy a new tray, in fact it is a good idea to buy a new tray for backup anyway.
