How to legally make money in EQ2 - Everquest 2

Tips on how to LEGALLY make money in this MMORPG. An unofficial guide by a veteran Everquest 2 player. I have listed what I can think of how to easily (or at least fairly easy) make money in EQ2. I have some more in depth posts in my gaming blog (link provided in link list) and I try to update this lens as things might change or can think of any new links to add.

Station Exchange closed, but if you are on the two station exchange enabled servers you will be able to sell platinum legally via Live Gamer.
If you visit the Station Exchange site you will see information on this right on the site.

Different patches happen and it is great they keep the game updated well. Basic strategies still remain the same.

Making money with shard armor

an armorer's input

Any tradeskill class with the proper books can put shard armor together. It just so happens that my beloved iksar is an armorer.

You can make quite a bit of money putting shard armor together (using tradeskill commission system). As with most other Norrathian things, when it first came out not as many had the books so it was easier to rack up plat. These days you will see a couple of people say in chat channel making shard armor for tips. I don't usually say something in channel, usually when people need it done, they ask for it in chat channel or I get the job through referral. Making it for tips is the best way to go though. It doesn't make you seem greedy and although sometimes you might feel like you got jipped on the tips, other times you will make quite the handsome profit.

So how do you get these nifty recipe books and why should people bother getting them done by other players? For the recipe books you will need to do the quest "Ship Out" in Moors of Ykesha. You can get the quest at 60sth but the shard recipes are 77plus if I remember correctly. Once you have ship out quest done, head on over to Isle of Mara. You will then be able to get group missions. You don't want the solo missions for this, they don't give you the books. You can solo group missions, I have, many of them, but it will take you a couple hours or more. Those missions have the chance to drop the book you need (and there are four books in total), and they don't always drop any book of course. Books are heirloom so you can trade them beetween toons on your own account (that the toon that gets the book is on) only.

I have all the four recipe books and it was worth the time. You save shards and plat getting it done yourself or having someone do it for you. This you can do up to tier 2 shard armor. After that, you have to suck it up and take your shards, mold (yes the higher ones use molds) and hard earned plat to the different shard merchants.

So what's new in the world of Norrath in terms of making money?

Livegamer and Norrathian update

Well as most of you might know, the plat price has dropped. Raiding guilds charge for epic updates whether it be mythical or fabled and of course that helps in accruing tons of plat. That being said, for some it is the only way to get the epic updates, so it is not a bad thing in that respect.

The plat market value will hopefully rise again with the new expansion coming in February 2010. Level cap will go up to 90 (woot!) and there are some other nifty things they are bringing to the game as well. Characters might sell better too, but I am guessing the plat price will go up some although maybe not to the 2 dollars a plat or the original prices on the station exchange.

It is still possible to make money on the game, just more difficult than it used to be.

If you are still working for that Rime faction and the speedy horse of Rime, those repeatable quests are 15 gold each and most of them are very easy to do plus you get loot to boot!

Real money?

Stay tuned!

To legally make real money in this game, you need to have a character on one of the two Station Exchange enabled servers, The Bazaar (non-PvP) or Vox (PvP). Character transfer is usually free to these servers although you can't transfer items of value or coin. Oh, and when you are there you are stuck! One may not transfer a character from a Station Exchange-enabled server. Make sure that for further information regarding selling plat for money to look up the main EQ2 site.

The only place to buy and sell plat legally is on the Station Exchange and as of March 31, Live Gamer is taking over the virtual trading of plat for EQ2 (links provided in link list). I think it is great that Sony makes it possible for players to make real life money in this game, so I encourage people that want to buy and sell plat to move to one of the two servers mentioned above. If more people start using Station Exchange then maybe they will open up more servers with this capability.

These days plat value is low, about a buck per plat, not like when it first started out. Some of the reasons behind this are illegal gold sellers, so make sure to /report and /petition all those gold spammers! They ruin it for the ones trying to legally make a little bit of extra income on this game. That is rule number one!

Stay away from botting, that is illegal as well. If you see someone botting, take screenshots and send in as well as /report, /petition. Keep in mind that boxing is different than botting. If you ACTUALLY control your toons it is different. However, the botters are running illegal macros.

Moonlight Enchantments Mini Live event (2009)

The mushroom rings

On the 20th each month there is a mini live event. Mushroom rings go up in the following zones: Darklight Wood near werewolves, Enchanted Lands near the spires, Nektulos Forest near the spires, Antonica in Archer's Woods and Greater Faydark in the nursery. You can do the quests once for each zone (some zones had two quests) and you get some tokens that you can purchase things with. Those things go for a neat amount on the broker as does the collectibles. You should be able to find one collect in each zone. Sorry, they don't respawn, just one per event. Sometimes they don't spawn for whatever reason, but most often, it is just that they can be hard to see. You have to click on the zone portal over the mushroom ring to enter. Happy live eventing!

Tradeskills - which tradeskill profession is the most profitable?

short summary

I would say that probably the sage or jeweler is the one that makes the quickest buck (ok well plat really) in this game. It all depends on supply and demand of course. Sage is famous for making good money. Easiest and cheapest to level is the provisioner and they make a steady income that quickly adds up (you might learn to not like that stove and keg so much when you keep having to go back to make more stuff). I have a more detailed post in my gaming blog, please see link in this lens.

Happy tradeskilling!

Norrath money making tips - EQ2

Some tips for how to make coin in the world of Norrath
  • Harvest and sell rares. Some people might say that the prices of rares will drop... well it does and then it goes back up. Prices fluctuate for pretty much anything on the broker.

Sell those collectibles on the broker.

Tradeskill and sell your mastercrafted stuff.

Buy low, sell high. Sound familiar? Well, the game economy is an economy like most other ones.

Distinguish what items might sell well enough on broker to bother selling them instead of vendoring them. Most things sell at least somewhat better on broker, but some things just are plain vendor trash.

Sell to the right npc... if you really want to get the most out of your vendor trash, take it to someone you have the highest faction with. If you are going to sell a lot and the items are worth at least a couple of gold, it really starts being worth the trip.

Get a house. This cannot be stressed enough. When items start costing up to a plat then broker commission starts to hurt, and people often bother taking the trip to your house to buy it. Plus sometimes you can mark your options higher and still be cheaper than the other person.

Get the most bang for your buck. Kelethin might not be the travel hub, so I'm not so sure that is any better than Qeynos in that aspect. Neriak is cheaper to live in than Freeport and just about as accessible. So I would probably recommend Neriak if the rent is an issue. Many people seemed to have moved to Neriak these days as well. However, one thing to keep in mind is that it appears impossible to sneak into Neriak, so if any good toons want to buy from your house there, well... they could most likely expect a repair bill. It is easier to sneak in Freeport.

This one is obvious... hunt nameds.

Don't destroy your non rare harvested stuff! The prices on some of the roots often get ridiculous, especially succulent roots, which is used heavily in tradeskill tier 6.

    Have fun!

Collections

I many times hear questions about collections...

Those shiny things on the ground, collectibles, yeah... some people call them glowies, other people call them shinies... No big deal about lingo here, they're all collectibles. Most people seem to forget about the long around site Allakhazam... yes ogaming was better but then it was incorporated with the allakhazam site... not much to do about it. Allakhazam for Everquest 2 do have a good collection list (not all are covered, but many are there). Do a search in your favorite search engine for the site or better yet, check out the link list on this lens. Collectibles usually equals good money, some a lot better than others, so it pays to know where these things spawn.

The Forsaken City

Forsaken what?

This is a zone forgotten about many times. You will usually see one or so people in the zone hunting here for collectibles. The page collections still collect quite a bit on the broker, whereas the other regular collectibles, nayad scales etc, don't go for as much as they used to. This is also the zone where you can find the collection with the terracotta chips. For the regular collections (not sure about the page collections though) in this zone you don't even get gold, silver or copper for turning in your completed collection. You will however, get a decent amount of achievement experience.

So, how do you find the Forsaken City? Go to Village of Shin of Nektulos docks. Bell says isle of mara. Once in there, head along the river towards the waterfall for the Mystic Lake zone entrance. This is the zone in which you will find the entrance to the Forsaken City. Run past the pirates, up and through the stone building, follow the river to the lake and right under the little island in the middle you will find the Forsaken City. You can swim from underneath island or from on top of island swim underneath to the tunnel system to access the zone entrance.

Enjoy!

The Forsaken City Maze

well it is a maze to me anyways

Ya know, I am so far only getting collectibles for Cor and for hubby's toon. There is about a ten minute respawn on the pages. I believe there are about 2-3 places where the pages spawn. However, there is some money in it if you are trying to get the pages to sell on the broker, just a bit time consuming.

Ruins of Kunark - EQ2 players rejoice!

Max level now 80

Yep. Max level is now capped at 80 and number of achievement points is maxed at 140. The info in this lens is still as good as ever. Many new zones but the content in the RoK - Ruins of Kunark expansion seems to be mostly geared for over level 65 or under level 20. Do you remember Field of Bone from EQ1? I sure do, it was one of my favorite zones. Well, I can still level there. Level 74 plus meanies running around. Those burynais? Yeah they are there too, level 74 plus also. Not a friendly zone, but it has a similar look to EQ1 (better graphics mind you) and woohoo I can level again!

Updates...

Whoah... she actually remembered to update this thing?

Yeah... ever gotten too many lenses and blogs at one time while RL gets busy? I have been trying to fit in some time to do my airbrushing and build our business. As many small businesses these days I'm working basically with no money, or should I say any profit goes toward investment immediately or as the case might be regular household bills. Enough with the bad economy already! Anyways, I do remember this lens and I try to update it every so often... For making money even with lower adventurers (if tradeskill 70 plus), check out the repeatable daily tasks in Moors of Ykesha. I think they were like 22 gold or so each per task. Several factions offer tasks, so even if the particular one only has one per day, go on to the next.

Harvesting still goes, but what's even better I think is either soloing or grouping, having fun while hunting and making money in the process. If you don't have fun, well you probably won't play as much and consequently maybe not make very much plat. The plat is low these days, but hey, it is still fun to play. So it can still be a bit of an income. It makes it difficult when some gamers are able to have several accounts and computers and can run a whole group by themselves. It can still be done though, just move on to another area, find your own little spot and go hunt there (do have backup places to go in case someone finds your favorite hunting spot).

That's about it for this update. Have fun folks!
