Equine Positional Release: Non-Force Structrual Alignment and Postural Balancing
Equine Positional Release (EPR) is a non-force hands on, manual therapy designed for horses. EPR is adapted from Ortho-Bionomy to facilitate non-violent, sustainable partnerships between the horse and rider.
EPR uses the tools of observation, gait and movement assessment, gentle contact and body positioning natural to the horse trainer and rider. The focus is to determine comfortable movement and positioning to best suit the horse's nature, conformation and posture. This allows for free dynamic movement in the horse.
Comfortable positioning in the horse builds trust, developing strong partnerships between the horse and rider. The awareness of comfortable movements teaches the rider to feel for the quality of the horse's body movement. As the horse learns to move naturally with the weight of the rider, natural collection becomes possible. Behaviour, performance and the horse-rider partnership improve with comfortable movement. Injury prevention along with the recovery from injuries are aided with balanced, free movement.
Equine Ortho-Bionomy
The growth of EPR paved the way for the development and accreditation of Equine Ortho-Bionomy, encompassing a non-force approach for both the horse and rider. Equine Ortho-Bionomy explores the interplay between structure, movement and balance of the horse and the rider.
Equine Ortho-Bionomy is accredited with the Ortho-Bionomy Practitioner Training programs in Australia, New Zealand and the US. For more information about Equine Ortho-Bionomy visit: www.eprortho.com or www.ortho-bionomy.org.
An Equine Positional Release Professional Training Program is run in conjunction with the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts in Santa Fe New Mexico. The program teaches the foundations of Equine Positional Release, Equine Ortho-Bionomy, Human Ortho-Bionomy and Applications of Equine Anatomy and Physiology. For details of the EPR Program visit: www.eprortho.com or www.nmhealingarts.org.

Equine Ortho-Bionomy
Positional Release techniques with the Shoulder, works to regain the horse's natural balance and re-position their centre of gravity. The natural centre of gravity is found at the high point of the wither, occurring slightly behind the point of the elbow.
Postural adaptations resulting from injuries, poor hoof care, poorly fitting saddles and hard riding, lead to compensates in the Neck, Shoulder and Front Leg. These adaptations in turn can push forward the centre of gravity leading to further problems along the spine and in the pelvis.
The Neck, Front Leg and Thorax are influenced with the gentle Shoulder techniques.
