Who is ERNIE COOMBS (Mr. Dressup)

Ranked #7,765 in Entertainment, #95,189 overall

Finnegan was my favorite. :)

While the show Mr Dressup began way back in 1967 as Canada turned one hundred years old, we all watched Mr Dressup as children. I didn't have a television at home but I went to my friends' house on the street and we watched a great deal of TV. There were Sesame Street, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, an animated Peter Pan show, the Fred Penner show, Polka Dot Door, but of course there was also Mr Dressup.

I am old enough to remember a time when Mr Dressup had Casey and Finnegan. I remember watching the show many times but I don't remember the disappearance of Casey and Finnigan as it happened when I was about five or six and I guess I watched the show less. If Canadian television did anything right it was children's shows

Mr. Dressup, I miss you!!

In this series, Ernie Coombes hosts this simple formated TV as Mr. Dressup. With his puppet friends, originally Casey and his dog Finnegan, he teaches pre-school subjects with games, music and simple activities. To add to the fun, Mr. Dressup would always open up his tickle trunk that contains any costume for any role he wants. The character of Mr. Dressup was introduced on "MisteRogers" (1962), the Canadian-produced ancestor of _"Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" (1967 This was a cool show. I use to watch it all the time when I was younger. It's a really good show for children. The puppets were neat too. It They need to make more shows like this for children. If you ever see a rerun of this show I recommend your kids watching this show. It's a great show for kids.

I'd wished for some time for Mr Dressup on DVD before I found it - I should have known, as the show was so beloved by so many. I don't know about it airing on any US stations, but like others along the northern US border, I watched it every day on CBC throughout the '70s. I don't know if that technically counts as "airing in the US".

Anyway, I consider myself very lucky to have been able to grow up watcing it, and have often been frustrated when other Americans have no idea who Mr Dressup (or Casey, or Finnegan, or Aligator Al, etc) is. These DVDs have proven quite popular in the short time I've had them, so I'm looking for more copies to give as gifts.

Oh, yeah...all the kids I know love it too.
