Eschalon Gameplay Tips

Here's a few things that will help you start your journey through Basilisk Game's Eschalon: Book One on the right foot.

  • Right near where you start the game is a hidden cache of Eschalon items. What looks suspicious outside the ruined home you awaken in?
  • Be careful who you attack! It's very easy to turn someone hostile accidently.
  • Looting items when you're in sight of someone can turn them hostile.
  • Always carry around many torches. You'll need them to be able to see in the dark in Eschalon dungeons. They burn out over time. Don't get caught in the middle of one without one!
  • You can run away from monsters and regen mid-fight that way. It's a lame tactic, but it works & helps you survive if you aren't playing as a combat character.
  • Cartography skill is important! You won't be able to use the minimap without it - and raise it higher for much more useful maps.
  • Many answers can be found in the Drunken Lizard Pub.
  • Try to win the game in an alternate way for a special ending & gameplay title!

how do you use the ectoplasm and mercury to penetrate the armor?I tried putting the ectoplasm &mercury in an empty jar and it blew up

I'm guessing you hadn't gotten the in-game book that tells you how to do this. You don't put it in a jar, you put it directly on the armor. Also - mercury doesn't go on armor, it goes on weapons. Ectoplasm and Spider Silk go on armor. Ectoplasm and either Snake Venom or Mercury go on weapons. I've been enchanting my best weapons with both.
