I set this page up to help you get together your essential camping gear, so you don't forget anything you should have and you don't take anything you don't need!
You are definitely not alone in being clueless. When I first went camping I have no idea what I was doing. It was a good job I had a couple of friends who helped me out.
So I plan to be that friend to you! :)
So if you want help getting your essential camping gear all sorted, keep reading!
Gear and Supplies
When you start to make your list of camping gear, you may be shocked at how much stuff you actually have to take with you. You're sleeping on the ground under a big sheet after all!But you end up taking LOADS of stuff.
There are two main types of things that will make it on to your list. The first main type is camping SUPPLIES and the second main type is camping GEAR.
Camping gear usually refers to equipment, like your tent, BBQ, etc, and camping supplies usually refers to things like food, drinks, tooth paste, etc.
And maybe also a Kendel's Mint Cake ;-)

Supplies and Gear examples
Camping supplies (like clothes, food, drink, etc) is quite an easy one to do, because you use these things every single day anyway! You know what you will eat and how much, you know what you will want to wear, what health/beauty products you need to take with you to keep you in tip top shape...But it's the camping GEAR that usually gets people stumped. Especially if they have never had the pleasure of going cmping before!

Make sure you don't forget your tent!
Of all the things to forget to take with you camping, forgetting your tent would probably have to be the biggest mistake...!Also, make sure you think about whether or not you will need multiple tents. The other option would be to buy a big long tent with multiple rooms.
Whatever you choose, you must make sure your tent is of good quality, weatherproof, sturdy, and can withstand a good strong wind - just incase!
Even people who go camping in a big ol' motor home often like to spend a night or two in a tent. It just feels closer to the wilderness. Closer to nature. And that's why you're going camping and not staying in a hotel!

Sleeping Bags!
Your sleeping bag is your second piece of essential camping gear. If you forget it, or if you buy one that easily breaks, you're going to be very uncomfortable indeed!If you are going camping as a romantic getaway, you might also want to see if you can find a DOUBLE sleeping bag. More and more couples are finding they prefer getting closer to nature than staying in a hotel. And a double sleeping bag is a must.
Something else to consider is whether it will be warm or cold during the night. Why does this matter? Because you can get sleeping bags of different thicknesses. Thinner ones and thicker ones. Depending on where you are planning on going camping, it may be worth you taking both. It would depend on where you are going. So that's up to you!

Sleeping Pads and Air Mattresses
Whether you bring an air mattress with you or not entirely depends on how well you think you'd like to sleep!Taking one with you will definitely make your camping trip more comfortable, but if it's COMFORT you are trying to get AWAY from... don't take an air mattress or a sleeping pad.
Most campaites will have a level ground for you to sleep on, but a lot won't. And it could be quite uncomfortable for you to be sleeping on bumps and dips. And you don't want to be lying awake each night cursing your air mattress... which is packed neatly away in your cupboard at home.
And as these air mattresses and pads are very cheap (at least affordable) these days, you might as well take one with you.

- Nicely done Skills! I'd like to give you a "right on" when it comes to selecting a quality tent. This is not a place to skimp. On one family outing we had purchased a cheap tent and as luck would have it the first night out we experienced a rain storm. The tent was full of water and the sleeping bags soaked. The tent was a waste of money. Please stop by when you have a chance - Outdoor Camping Equipment
