Why do some people fall ill frequently while others enjoy robust health all the time? It could be genetics, your living environment, working environment, or your modern lifestyle. Since we cannot do anything about our genes, we can reduce the impact the environment or an unhealthy lifestyle has on us.

One way to ensure we enjoy good health is to make sure our body take in sufficient nutrients by eating some essential healthy food. Our body needs nutrients for internal function and external defense.

Essential healthy living is eating healthy food that maintains our body at the optimal level. It does not have to be complicated nor do you need lots of health supplements. Although I have no complains against supplements, why not enjoy the simple, fresh organic foods that nature has given us.

If you want to enjoy good health, you have to give your body the right nutrients. The key to essential healthy living is to eat more natural, unprocessed food. Choosing food that have low glycemic index food such as green vegetables, fruits, grains and nuts can help. These food does not cause rapid changes in your insulin levels, hence reduces health problems and weight gain.

If you experience the following symptoms, it may be time to change your diet.

  1. Your skin shows signs of inflammation or swelling.

  2. Constipation.

  3. Your mood and energy level are low.

  4. You can't seem to think clearly, and are less productive at work.

  5. You fall ill more often


These could be signs that your organs and tissues are full of toxins. The good news is this can be easily remedied with the right eating habits.

  • Eat plenty of fresh organic vegetables and fruits daily. These are packed with nutrients your body require for essential healthy living.


  • Drink plenty of fluids in the form of water. This helps flush toxins out of the body, and keep your body hydrated. Your perform better at physical and mental tasks. It also keeps your skin and complexion looking great.


  • Reduce your exposure to pollution from your environment. Easy said than done, I know. Still, I am sure there are changes each of us can make to improve our situation. Hazardous air, contaminated water, chemicals in household products, over-exposure to sunlight are just some of the type of environmental pollution we come into contact with daily.


  • Reduce your stress by working out or meditation. Stress in your life can disrupt your sleeping patterns, and suppress your body's immune responses. While reducing stress may not solve your problems, it will ensure you are physically and mentally capable of staying in the fight.


  • Take prescription drugs only when medically necessary. Antibiotics destroy healthy and unhealthy bacteria in our bodies.

What Are The Essential Nutrients? 



Carbohydrates are the body's main source of energy. Your best source of carbohydrates are from whole grains, fruits and vegetables.


You are doing it wrong if your carbohydrate intake are from jelly donuts, chocolate cakes and potato chips.

Vitamins & Minerals plays an important role in body functions such as regulating heartbeat, muscle contraction and digestion. Your best source is from fresh fruits and fresh vegetables.


You have the wrong idea if you are getting yours from sweetened fruit juices and processed food.

Proteins are amino acids that form the building block of body cells. Your best source are fish, lean meat, nuts and eggs.


You are eating wrong if red meat and fried bacon is all you ever eat, and you sole source of protein is from processed sausage and hot-dogs.

Fat helps the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and assists brain development. These are the good fat: Mono-unsaturated oils such as olive oil and peanut oils. Poly-unsaturated oils from soy and corn oils. Omega-3 fatty acids from salmon, flax seeds and walnuts.


If you take take much saturated fat, it's going to clog up your arteries and increase the risk of heart disease. While a lack of Omega-3 fats can lead to dyslexia, memory problems and depression.

Antioxidants are vital in the repair and regeneration of body cells and protection against harmful free radicals. The thing to remember is organic fresh fruits and vegetables supplies your body needs.


Food processing, pesticides and chemicals results in little or low antioxidants in fruits and vegetables.

  • Exercise! Take a brisk 30 minutes walk three times a week. This will get your heart and lungs working, increase your metabolic rate and help you lose weight.

  • Keep stress off! Small amounts of stress boasts performance but prolonged stress crashes the body.

  • Laugh! Laughter releases tension and boosts production of endorphin in your body.

  • Don't smoke. I know it is hard but it just isn't good for you. And stay away from secondhand tobacco smoke.
