How can we use Essential Oils?
13 Ways to Use Essential Oils
You can use essential oil in different ways depending on the kind of oil and your preference:- Mix with alcohol and spray it on an old Potpourri that lost its scent.
- Onto a small piece of cloth while drying your clothes in your drying machine.
- Mix a few drops with pure alcohol and water put the mixture in a spray bottle and spray during the day.
- Put a few drops in a micro-diffuser or mix with little alcohol.
- Add a few drops in a bathtub when taking a bath.
- Add a few drops in your humidifier; this is one of my favourites. This is especially good during the wintertime and essential oils help preventing the flu.
- Add a few drops to a base oil like Sweet Almond or Grape-seed oil for a self-massage or when you give someone else a massage.
- Add a few drops to a quickly absorbed carrier oil, such as Jojoba and massage your head and face. This is very healthy for your skin, sklil and hair.
- Put a few drops of essential oil on the heat filters. Fir, Pine, Cinnamon Bark or Eucalyptus wolid be a good choice for flu prevention.
- Add 3-5 drops in a facial steamer or in a bowl of warm water and cover your head and the bowl with a large towel. Keep your face under the towel for five to ten minutes, taking little breaks for better breathing. This is great as a skin care treatment or for treating respiratory problems.
- Add 3 drops to moistened clay and apply as a facial mask. Clay is great for balancing oily or acne-prone skin, adding essential oil with antiseptic properties, such as Tea Tree oil, will prevent acne breakouts. You can target other specific problems by choosing the suitable oil.
- Use a few drops to a warm water compress and apply to the sore muscles. Good choices are Ginger oil and Cajuput.
- Make a mix of essential oil with a slowly absorbed carrier oil. Do not use mineral oil on skin, use a vegetable oil such as sunflower or olive oil. The essential oils that work best as repellents for mosquitoes are: Lemon Eucalyptus, Cinnamon Bark, Citronella.

When you use essential oils make sure you follow the direction for use. Here is a non-exhaustive list of general directions for using essential oils:The concentration should be between 1% and 5% depending on the oil. The most common concentration is 3%. Always test on a small scale before using.
Some oils are highly irritant. Do not apply directly on the skin or use in higher concentration than recommended.
Do not ingest essential oils unless you know what you are doing, some of them are toxic even in small quantities.
