Stop Putting Off Preparing for an Emergency. Your Family is Depending on You!

Be prepared! You've heard it said and you know it's important, but have you been putting it off? The purpose of this page is to help you learn what emergency relief supplies your family needs and to help get you prepared for possible evacuation or for living without utilities and even a working financial system for a period of time in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.

We don't like to think about having to evacuate our families, but no one is absolutely safe no matter where you live. From hurricanes along the eastern or Gulf coast to destruction by tornado in the mid-portion of the country (although tornadoes can strike anywhere) to fires or mudslides in California, and even in case of terror attack or long-term power grid failure anywhere in the country, responsible families, individuals, and businesses make plans and stock supplies in advance - just in case.

This page provides information on the minimum of what you need to consider when preparing for a possible emergency, but it should be more than enough to get you thinking and spur you on to action. That is our goal.

We are so lucky as we do not live in an area that is vulnerable to natural disasters. However, one of my daughters is a Loss Adjuster and is constantly dealing with insurance claims from people who have been flooded, some for the second or third time. The stories she tells me emphasise the fact how unprepared people are, even when they have already suffered one disaster.

Looking forward to seeing how this series develops Susan.

No, we aren't prepared. We have been at times in the past but got out of the habit of making sure it was done. Thanks for the great tips to make sure our Family is Prepared for an Emergency.

We have a radio and flashlights that are hand-cranked. We don't generally get major disasters around here, but you never know what will happen.

Nice lens on an important topic. The concern upper most in our minds here in the part of Canada that I live in would be loss of power in the winter...when it can be pretty cold.

We do have a hand cranked radio that has come in handy when the power has gone out but I can see there are lots of other things I need to get.
